I have had a deep water slip at Bay View on Hubbard for a few years now. When I say deep I mean we still have 18' under my slip now and the Crappie fishing has been FANTASTIC. I have put so much structure in my slip of all kinds and have caught over 1000 Crappie this winter out of it. Now hears my problem the Marine is going to reconfigure because of the drought to get more slips in deeper water. Our entire dock is moving!!!!!!!! Nobody liked this idea but we understand why it must take place. We are going to end up in I think about 1' or 2'even deeper water and the fishing should be just as good but we are going to have to rebuild all of your structure. I have lots of ideas but I know there is a lot of experience on the TFF and would like to get your ideas. If you got to start over what would you do different what would you build????? When the lake comes back up to full pool we should have about 25' under my slip. Any ideas, pictures are welcome. Thanks Pat

Buy rolls of black PVC like they use for sprinkler systems. I think they are about 3/4" diameter. Cut into 2-3' lengths and thread it through a chain that's as long as the depth of water under your slip. Hang it from your pier and it will always be there. I don't have a pic of the one I made, but this is the type of pvc that I used. You also can't go wrong with a PVC tree. It will always be there and you will never get hung up on it.

I know all structure will hold crappie but from now on Im going to build structure that creates shade and darkness.
Like the pros say they relate to. like on the pvs ones mount some large plastic garbage can lids every foot like a roof.

I have made other ones out of old PVC gutters, but I don't have a pic of those.

if it were me I would only put in "snagless" structure
no brush ...no trees ....just condos of bamboo or pvc
and I would place them in a circle with a void in the center
but then again what do I know rolfmao

This is all very very true! But I would fish in a wad of balled up chicken wire if I knew fish were there! bouncy

If I were putting condos in 25' of water, I'd use something that stood up about 10' if possible. As the lake warms up they are going to be in the 15 to 20' depth.

Dieago shade is very important I have tarps dropped to creat shade in my slip and will continue to use them. No Christmas or Cedar trees are going in my slip unless I lay some branches down on the very bottom and fish above them. I know Matthew likes selling me jigs but!!!!!!

If I had caught 1000 crappie out the boat slip this winter. I would do exactly what you have been doing.

I have put out several PVC tree's in the past few years, but have't had the luck with PVC that I have had with Bamboo and east texas cedar. I do t do Christmas Trees due to the need to replace them every couple yrear. Cedar Trees, Bamboo and the limbs from my oak trees are my most productive piles.

I have started going back and throwing natural cover on top of our PVC, to try and get them to being more productive piles.

I am going to use Bamboo this time along with cedar limbs. In 2013 I had too much stuff in my slip and could not get down deep enough with out getting hung up. One of the keys for the good year in 2014 was I drug out most of the cover to the sides I could get down deeper.
Thanks for the reply's so far!

Cedar, bamboo, & christmas trees provide organic material that microorganisms feed on and they provide a food base for minows and invertrbrates that bigger fish feed on, that is why organic based structure usually hold more and larger fish, the food is there.

See if this makes sense. I have seen cedar trees and Christmas trees in the water and if you disturbed them it look like a underwater dust cloud going off. Ive read where some pros say they are bad for longevity because they get weighted down with silt and flatten out on bottom. I do know the most important thing is not design or pretty or material. Its location location location.
