This came to JJ4MEL the end of last year.

Fellow yakker. Good news. Prosper Town Lake is exempt from the City rules of no kayaking. I have it in writing from the Parks & Rec manager and from the Asst. Chief of Police.

Hello Mr. J,
You are correct. I’m fairly new to Prosper, but I’ve been informed that Town Lake has been an exception to the ordinance since its still undeveloped currently. This could change at any time. If the Police are enforcing no kayaking then there may have been an issue, but ultimately they are charged with enforcing our ordinances. Currently, staff is ok w/ kayaking allowed in this passive lake if Police are ok with it. Again, this could change at any time with development on the horizon and no designated ramp for such.

Mr. J,

Our stance is similar to that of the parks of the department. Being that this is a passive lake this is not something we actively enforce, however, as Will mentions in his communication this is something that is subject to change, which is also spoken to in our Ordinance under subsection #1. I hope this helps and or adds clarity from our standpoint. Please feel free to contact me at the below phone number should you need additional information. Thank you.

Regards,

Gary R. McHone, CPM
Assistant Chief of Police

I have 2 e-mails saved on my phone. One from Will Mitchell, M.S., CPRP Parks and Recreation Manager stating this lake is exempt and another from Gary R. McHone, CPM Assistant Chief of Police stating they are aware of the exemption and will abide by it.

I stopped by there about 10 days ago and there were several yaks on the lake.
The water level is pretty good compared to our big lakes.

That lake gets good run off from the surrounding area and the creek helps too. Only takes a little water to bring it up.

No professional courtesy. If I'm not allowed I don't go.

That's good news. I wanted to give it a try last year but heard it was off limits.

No offense intended with the courtesy comment, of course. Just funnin with you...
