I never had any luck with a polish job lasting very long.I ended up clear coating my 88 ProCraft.A good quality automotive clear will stay above the rub rail for many years.Polish below the rail.

looks like you are making good progress!! it is hard to wear out a basscat. i have a 92 and it is still in great shape. it still catches just as many fish as a new one. will be looking forward to the finished project.

I did a complete gel coat restore on the old blue ranger back in 2010, before I had my shoulder surgery grin It was a complete [censored]-whipping but the boat looked incredible afterwards. Anywhere you do not get ALL the oxidation out of the gel will start to fade again quickly, so be thorough with the wet sanding.

Here is a update. Wet sanding has began and carpet glue is all gone. Also have decided to replace the rub rail as well.

Nice project, will be great to see the finished product!

I did a similar project on my 1988 Skeeter in 2012. Be careful with the sanding and top cap, I made several mistakes in my venture. I purchased a very expensive clear gel coat ($150 per quart) and followed the manufacture instructions to the T. I then pulled her all apart and replaced the carpet. She looked great for about a month and then turned chalky, I wet sanded and buffed again per the manufacture...same chalky look back about 3 weeks later. I spent over a year scraping it off with a razor blade. The time, headache and money spent was a great lesson! There are a couple of great products out there than can really shine an old boat back up and keep it that way. I currently use the 303 product (Cabela's carries it in the boating section), I apply it about once a month and buff the boat about every three months. This keeps my boat looking good and keeps lake grime from sticking to it. I have been very pleased with both products and cannot really tell a difference in the out come between them.

I use 303 on the vinyl of my 2000 and it seriously looks like it just came off the showroom floor - never tried it on the glass - thanks for the tip !

Been a while since we did an update. Never done so much sanding in my life but finally got through the 1500 grit and started compounding last weekend. Used a foam pad and wasn't thrilled with the results. It seemed to leave a film on the hull and it didn't last very long. Got a wool pad today and went over the hull again. What a difference!
Tomorrow I hope to knock out the consoles and do any touch up. Once that's done it's time to polish. I'm looking forward to starting the pad and carpet.
