Just thought I'd share my new tying case. I don't have a dedicated space to tie, so I always had to clean up. I've had this old suitcase taking up space in my garage so I decided to put it to use. I made everything mostly with scraps, because I wasn't sure it was going to work. I'll probably rebuild it with nice wood at some point. It's got plenty of room for all my gear, but I can already see some things that need to be tweaked.
The shelves are adjustable for different sized materials boxes. I used bender board from rockler for the slots and I cut up a door kick plate for the shelves.

<pulls his hand back from the doorknob> Man! That is an awesome setup. How is it attached to the suitcase? That is a great idea. Color me impressed.

Well, the idea for it actually came from my wife. I did a lot of searches on the internet for similar things and wandered around container store for an hour buying different boxes and stuff. Attaching it to the case is another story...it's not. It stays in because it's built very tight to the sides. I'm trying to figure out a way to attach it without putting screws through the case, but I just haven't stumbled onto the right idea yet.
Thanks for all the compliments! Eric

Let me interject a couple of ideas 1. velcro - might not be the best solution 2. epoxy - oh so permanent.
But it's yor baby so I am just tossing out thoughts to reject or stimulate further inspiration. Have you consulted with the Mrs.? She got the original bright idea and might have another.

I love this idea. Your wife deserves a round of applause. You do too, because you made her idea work. It is very cool to say the least.

Suitcase... My grandfather (born in the 1890's) called a leather case like that a "grip". You did a great job with that one!

I think you did a great job. I did a similar conversion with an old carpenters traveling box Mike
