Most everybody does it that way. I can't hardly pick my nose with my left hand must less cast a pole.

I do the same thing however I do cast some left handed, I have thought about getting a couple lefty reels and giving that a try, especially for flipping/pitching.

I learned (like most probably did) on reels with the crank on the right side. being right handed I do the same thing and have since my first garcia 5000 in the mid 60's.
if it feels natural don't mess with it.

I cast right and reel left. I can not reel on the right side and am right handed.

another odd duck here, I throw left, write right, kick right footed. I think it has to do with my grandmother trying to unmake me a lefty. But my dad had right handed reels, so I picked up bait caster and used it how it naturally looks, cast with left, reel with right. now the rod is extension of my left arm. Watch KVD, he switches hands and he ain't hurting for lessons now is he?

Thanks for the feedback. Seems I'll just stick to my current habit. Bassbuddy is right- the fish don't mind.

Throw right and reel right. Mainly because I only have a left arm for balance.

Ditto here....I've always wondered why, especially given that I crank with my left hand when using spinning gear. My kiddos asked me why as well....just told them "that's what we all do".

I may buy a cheap lefty and experiment.

I am also left handed so right hand reels are perfect for me. I set up my spinning reel with the handle on the right side also.

If I tried retraining to be more ambidextrous, it would be to relieve fatigue.
