The black jitterbug is a great summertime late afternoon/night bait. I bought a couple of the larger musky type Jitterbugs that should trigger the big fish at Fork but haven't had a chance to use them yet. I love this bait and have been using it for over 30 years. Love that plop, plop, action.

I used to fish a big black jointed one that was like 6" long at Fork when we fished a lot at night a few years back.

The sound that big bait makes in the quiet night coming across the water and the sound and violence of the strikes it draws are awesome!

Few years ago me and my tournament partner was prefishing for a tournament on bob sandlin. I asked my brother in law if he wanted to go. That morning all three of us were throwing some kind of top water. I was throwing a pop r, my tournament partner was throwing a buzz bait and my brother in law was throwing a bull frog colored jitter bug. He kicked our a$$. I stole his jitterbug for the tournament. Lol

my favorite night bait still. I like the fact that it makes just enough noise that it gives you some feedback in the dark as to what the bait is doing. .that bubbling sound punctuated periodically by the explosions of a big bass crushing it!

Up north it was one of my best go-to lures. All colors all sizes worked great. Down here they work like the rest of everything I throw at the fish, which is great but only for the fish.

Fishing, a man knows a serenity of soul and peace of mind that he finds in doing nothing else, and it makes no difference whether or not he catches anything. The mind of a true fisherman is not on petty subjects.

Never tried a skirt on the back. I'll give that black skirt a try. I know just the place.

Are Pintail cove and Fishermans Cove Marina close together? One looks Brackish and the other a lake?

Caught my first bass on a Jitterbug. It was black and had a black skirt. I was maybe 8 or 9 at the time. Threw it from the shore in the middle of the day. About a 1 1/2 lb bass decided he needed it for lunch. Got me hooked for sure!

recently joined this thing - cant believe I saw this about jitterbug - found one over 40 years old that belonged to my grandfather, put new hooks on it, and caught several on Cedar Creek this past august - bought a new one so I could save the old one - oldie, but a goodie.

My BIL has won a couple of night tournaments on a black jitterbug up in Massachusetts. He says it's the only top water bait that works for him.

It certainly is. I've caught big bass on Jitterbugs from Washington State to Texas to Alabama, day and night. I, too, caught my first "artificial lure bass" on a Jitterbug when I was about 10 years old - back in the Jurassic, I think....and have been hooked ever since. Hula Poppers are much the same.

I have never caught a fish on these things. I have 2 in my tackle box though. I must be doing something wrong.

Great baits for small ponds. A lot of these areas receive tons of fishing pressure when the weather is good. I like these older baits because it's something the bass just don't see on a regular basis. Another great old bait is the Heddon Magnum Torpedo.

I really like the looks of this bait but I'm not paying $22.99 for a lure.

No, thanks.....not for that kind of money. It looks rather like a Heddon Crazy Crawler with a spinner on it's butt, so it should catch a lot of fishermen.

I have a friend that fishes with a couple of his Dad's lures just long enough to catch a bass or two each year.

Like I said.......agree! I catch most of my jitterbug fish while it is sitting still after a short retreive, you gotta let it sit as long as you can stand it.

Works for me...I tried to put this one up first, don't know what happened to it. I always have a jitterbug or a zara spook on one of my rods 100% of the time. It is a great prospecting bait.
