Kinda board of the local lakes and was wanting to fish somewhere new or a lake we don't fish often close to the house. He said what about white rock jokingly and it made Me want to fish it. What's the rules on boat with motors. Can you load and unload with the big motor? Can you idle around or does it have to be the trolling motor only? I know nothing of the lake but remember something about boat motors.

So as long as you don't start the big motor you are ok? TPWD says 9.9 horsepower limit. I guess I assumed that meant you couldn't have a big motor on it at all.

I take my bass boat out to WR all the time. Loading and unloading is never fun when you can only use a trolling motor. Make sure your batteries are plenty charged. There are two ramps. One on the north end, and one on the south end. There is a lot of pressure from bank fisherman especially around the north end, but in a boat you can fish water that really doesn't get much pressure at all. There are some healthy chunks in WR, but don't expect anything big. I've never caught anything over 4#, and I believe the lake record is 8 something. The water color fluctuates a lot depending on rain, and the lake is very hit or miss. If you find the right pattern on the right day it can be a fun little oasis. I would suggest fishing up the river... That is if you like fishing around heavy structure. You just might forget you're still within the Dallas city limits while your up there. Post a report if you go

Russell/Matt, call David Simmons. He lives in Lakewood and fishes out there quit a bit and does well. I've heard him say the same thing Ken said about raising the motor completely out of the water to keep anyone from calling the police.

There are two ramps. One on the north end, and one on the south end. if you are going, the one on the north end is off east lawther by the sailboat docks, the one further south is off west lawther about half a mile north of the old paddle-boat docks. both work fine for launching, its always at full-pool. It can drive you crazy standing on your TM for half an hour to get back to the launch there is riprap down in front of the old pump house by the dam that is worth hitting if you are on the south end. watch out for floaters and I don't mean trees.

Man sounds good. That is a lot of trolling motor but I think it would be fun. I love the river at Hubbard and it sounds like this one is simulair.

I don't know. Click on it and see if it works. I'll try to post it to photobucket. TFF is best fishing forum I've come across in any state but man, the photo function is really painful sometimes.
Listen, don't underestimate WR, it has some big fish with very little bass fishing pressure.

TPWD website says 9 .9 hp but that is wrong. The city ordinance is 10.5 hp if that makes a difference.
I have been using a large boat on WRL since 1996. Before that it was a buster boat. The police will try to get you to raise the motor, I have resisted for years, it is the keel and keeps the boat going straight. There is nothing in the ordinance that requires it to be raised.
In the nineties I took my prop off. I am too hard headed now.
Do not even think about using a big motor, there are lots of people at the lake that will call the police when you do . If the police approach you while fishing ask them if a call was filed through 911. If so, remind them that it is an ordinance violation to call 911 for non emergency issues . And fishing in WRL is not an emergency.
There are actually four ramps suitable for a bass boat. North ramp on East Lawther near Mockingbird, East side which is south of the North ramp on Lawther just past the Corinthian sailing club, do not let their members tell you that it is a private ramp, West side mid lake area with large parking lot, and the South ramp which is near the old water pump house. Each ramp will put you in areas that have good fishing.
Fished there last Saturday morning for a few hours and caught 6 bass a couple of dinks a few small keepers and one around 3.5. #s
Launching is no problem back in to a point that the boat just starts to move away from the bow roller, keep the boat winch strap hooked up. Then unhook the strap and walk down the the trailer tongue and push the boat down the trailer walking on the trailer frame. Once its floating freely jump in and start trolling.
Loading is just as easy. Troll towards the trailer at quick pace, raise the trolling motor as you reach the trailer running the the motor between the bunk boards. Let the boat settle on the trailer then step over the side and onto the trailer frame rails and pull the boat up the trailer hook up the winch strap and crank it up tight. This takes a few minutes longer than using the big boater.
Choose your ramp carefully if the wind is blowing, loading can difficult do to the ramps positions are crosswise to the prevailing south winds. White rock can get rough in the wind too.
Good luck if you see a black basscat say hi.

Make sure your boat has all the required safety items , and is up to date with registration . The areas Game Warden comes out often.
