So, I've been wearing these fish out for the past several weeks on topwaters in less than 5' of water. . . that's no secret. . . . . lots of big fish too (up to about 14lbs for me). I've been doing well where most people have, as well as a few spots between the islands and my home base that have been consistently holding fish. I decided to go the other way tonight, and found fishing even better than it has been for me, and it was 20 miles from the islands. . . .I covered about a mile or two of shoreline before I found em, but when I found em, it was ON. There were no fish blowing up until after the sun was down, but starting at about 6:45 tonight it was every cast. They were so thick, about 1/2 of my casts resulted in a fish blowing the pencil popper out of the water before I could even get one crank on the reel. . . . and they were all over 20". I could see other fish following and trying to grab the lure out of the mouth of the fish I was reeling in. . . .Caught two or three that were around 10lbs. Definitely a great trip.
I know there are a bunch of people hitting the islands right now, and I've read about people crowding others out there. . . . experienced it a bunch myself. I'm the first guy to wave someone over if they're in the area and not catching, but there are a lot of people that just don't understand etiquette. . . you all know what I'm talking about. . . . .My point is this, go find a sandy shoreline (better if wind is blowing in, of course) and start throwing topwaters or cohos. The dinks are everywhere and you can catch them all day, the big fish are early and late. . . . same ol' same ol'. Get out there and experience some great fishing, and don't be afraid to go find your own. Now is a great time to learn the lake, get some confidence finding fish, and hitting spots other than the ones that get broadcast over the internet.

Anyone can catch a lot of fish when they're hungry . . . . My favorite days are the ones where the fish don't want to eat, but I make 'em do it anyway.

Funny you say this because the boats ran me away from islands couple weeks ago...I just go find other fish to keep my sanity. I do not crowd others and dislike when they crowd me. Nice going btw!

I wonder if I could catch fish in the same areas I do in Spring?
