Good schedule Mark, I'd prefer 2 tournaments at Toledo and 2 at Rayburn with the 2 day at Red River. That's just my selfish preference though, thanks for letting us know. Should be a great turnout again next year, good luck.

I hope so. Texas is a challenge with all the other tournament trails. It's very difficult to make a perfect schedule and stay off other major tournament trails. Thanks to all that provided input.

Sure wish y'all would consider 2 events on Toledo or even better just add 1 more lake to the schedule. Think you would still have a big turnout if Pines was added in place of one of the Rayburn events. Seemed like it worked out great last year with the 2 day event on Pines.

Schedule looks good like the river being in there swap one rayburn for toledo and it b better. For the people saying it's to far you gotta go where pull the most boats pretty simple

I would put the Red River in April and TB in June. That's just my opinion. The river fishes small in April because everybody is crammed in the backwaters. People will spread out more in June fishing the main river and backwaters.

Each lake has it's pro's and cons's and fans. Since there is only one division for this area they have to consider the best participation. There is no way they can please everybody so they shoot for the largest number from past events.

Hahahaha to all of the above....
I think this is the best schedule they can produce that gives them a chance at making it in Texas with all of the other trails as Mark mentioned. I think they do a great job, these are very well run tourneys with a shot at the big time if you are good enough.
It's far enough away that I can't make all of them but I still commend them and Mark more importantly for trying as hard as they do. We should be VERY GLAD that he would even come on a public forum and even entertain our thoughts much less make a change to the schedule based on what we say ( red river) keep it up mark!!!!
I wonder how many of the DFW guys would show up and fish ALL of them if the schedule was: Eagle Mountain Lake Worth Eagle Mountain Lake worth
Championship on: GRAPEVINE.
The east is where the money is at for them and its a business.

Also, there will be a BFL regional championship on Sam Rayburn in October 2014. Obviously, the Cowboy division can't fish it but you can fish either the Arkie or Okie divisions to fish it. It's a no entry fee tournament where we'll give away a Chevy Silverado pick up and a fully rigged Ranger boat to the boater winner and another fully rigged Ranger boat to the co angler winner. The top six boaters and co anglers will advance to the BFL All American and compete for $100,000 on the boater side!! Just something to keep in mind.

good schedule mark. I will be there. Think what a lot of dfw guys are saying is yes they want to fish Rayburn & Toledo but break it up. I know their great draws but competition and finances are hard on the ones who aren't regulars on those lakes. Dont get me wrong I love it,right in my backyard, but whoever mentioned pines was right its a good draw and a great lake, just small; although it held an Everstart just fine with very low water last year. I'd have to throw Cedar Creek in as far as good draws go, its plenty big and always gets good numbers in tourneys, centrally located and is very tournament friendly. You did a great job this year Mark and I appreciate FLW for having good directors like yourself and Ron Lappin. Ya'll have tough jobs and just remember, no matter how hard you try, your never gonna make everyone happy!!! You try - you do your best - and you care about your customers, even when they are complaining; That's very respectable. see ya in 2014

The Bws isn't gone just because Bass isn't involved. It's my understanding that its the same, except having the slim chance to go to classic. I like this schedule for the Cowboy Div. ...It sounds great and I hope it stays like this for the people in east tx and Louisiana as well. There's trails all over Texas ...We choose where we live....just fish one thats close to you.

My money is on DFW travels better than LA and East Texas...... This hit the nail on the head. You look at how many anglers from DFW are in these tournaments and then look at how many from east texas and LA will travel to DFW to fish the same tournament(when there is already a tournament in their backyard). My guess is numbers would drop drastically.

If Cedar Creek or similar was on the schedule in place of one Rayburn I'd consider fishing it. It's disappointing as I've always wanted to fish the bfl just can't justify the expenses and time to travel to east Texas once a month (possibly twice to Pre fish). Every one seems wants to bash the DFW guys for not showing up but I looked at the June bfl and it only had 90 boats anyway. This trail should be getting 150 boats. I know it's difficult to please everyone but I still think there's a better solution out there.

Realistically Texas is big enough to have another division. There could be a North/Central division but again we are so big it still means there will "always" be a drive for somebody. Why do you think BassChamps has 4 Divisions? Currently the Cowboy Division is trying to extend a tournament to the Louisiana folks who do not have a division for that region and the DFW folks have another option to fish the OKIE and the ARKIE division if they don't want to drive to East Texas.

Mark does a great job. He got the numbers up this year and i believe they will be up in 2014.
Honestly the drive is no big deal. The closest event this year was a 6 hour drive for me. I could have fished a closer trail but I want to get back to the All American and fish the Cup. I would drive where the tournaments are even if i have to drive to Arkansas for every event.
The BFL is the best weekend trail with a chance to advance to bigger events.

That year if it wasn't for Arkansas guys fishing it to qualify for the DeGray regional, there would've only been 35 boats.

So is that a North Texas, Southeast Texas, Louisiana or all of the above issue? That year if it wasn't for Arkansas guys fishing it to qualify for the DeGray regional, there would've only been 35 boats.

Yes - crawl under a rock RMORott - I will not particpate until I feel it is not stacked towards the SE Texas/LA individuals. My money is green - if the BFL wants any they will change their ways otherwise I will make the All American through the TBF Mark no reason to explain to this guy he prolly never fished them when yall put them on up here

Ryan, I'm not arguing with him. I certainly realize there are dozens of great lakes in Texas to choose from. We've tried several different combinations. I'm always open to suggestions, and I have participation numbers, results and all kinds of information that I look when scheduling. He's just voicing his opinion and I do appreciate ALL input I get from anglers whether they are our customers or not. Thanks again to all anglers that voiced opinions.

Mark no reason to explain to this guy he prolly never fished them when yall put them on up here EXACTLY!!!!! I'm not sure why these guys think they will fish the BFL, make the regional, then the all American, then the CUP. All while not having to drive more than 3 hours from home. I find this extremely comical. IF . And that's a big if , all of the tournaments in the BFl were in DFw and not a mile outside the limits, and you just so happen to qualify for the regional, and your good enough to make the all American (don't forget top 6 only) . And you drive or fly or teleport, however you want to get there, cuz you won't drive that far, to fish NickaJack (this years all american location, just for the point) against 10 guys who are considered Locals to the "river"... WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE???? They are going to rake you over the coals just like Dickey Newberry would have had the circuit just went to Rayburn and TBend. Why not get the butt whoopin over with early on? You are going to have to branch out and become great on every lake in the country if you are truly trying to pursue the big time or make a name for yourself in the FLw circuits, the circuit coming to your home town for 4 tournaments in a row, or to prove your next point 2 of the 4, won't matter, your not gonna do a thing after that anyway... I would like to see if you have ever fished the BFL when they can to cedar creek, texoma etc... We're you there? They gave you a shot, did you take advantage? 3 years ago the regional was right in our back yard here at texoma... Sounds like a good opportunity to make the all American.. Did you take advantage? I don't want to answer my own question so please feel free. Sorry, I just don't think Mark has much defending to do, as it is not warranted. You boys sign a petition that 150 of DFW finest would indeed fish the BFL should they bring it closer to the Metromess, I bet they would gladly entertain the idea... Until then, we will fish TBend, Rayburn and the red whole everyone else whines Man I love this forum!!!!

I will say I have NEVER fished a BFL event - Was not my gig in 2009. I have qualified through the TBF for regionals on Lake Truman for the TBF national championship on Nickajack and finsihed 2nd qualifiying for the All Amerian on Cross Lake in LA in 2011. (BTW all those lakes are over 3 hours away) Traveling is not a issue with me when it is not stacked towards a spacific area. When was the last time SE texas/LA had a 150 boat field????? Not all the events need to be in NTX but they all dont need to be in SETX either. The BFL is a great tour but it is short sighted in my opinion by focsuing on a specific region of Texas. As long as they focus on that area the BFL will never grow in what is the biggest market in bass fishing. That is why BASS Federations rule in Texas along with other trails that have more to offer and do not alienate themselves geographically.. Mark no reason to explain to this guy he prolly never fished them when yall put them on up here EXACTLY!!!!! Great job! (In a seriousness!) On the second note I know that they go to the east and "stack it" to an area because that's where the numbers are. May not be fair but that's how it is... I just don't see how they can change that and keep the numbers up, I don't think it is possible personally RMORROTT, I am with you in that one!!!! No basin, no bayou Black.... That is WAY to far. Over 8 hours from the house.. I'm good with 4 or 5 but 8 is pushing it. Might as well fish the Cal Delta! I will say I have NEVER fished a BFL event - Was not my gig in 2009. I think it would pull a good turnout if the schedule looked like this: feb rayburn, march LBJ, April Travis, May Choke Canyon, Sept. 2 day on Toledo.
TTZ pulls some good numbers in the Austin area. I know it probably wont happen but they gave the DFW area 2 years why not give Austin a chance.

Tejasbasshunter, to pick a specific region of Texas and roll with it is truly the best way for us. Otherwise, you just get local "jack potters" that show up and fish specific events. This way the majority of the guys fish all five tournaments. We feel that the best chance for us to draw good numbers is around Sam Rayburn and Toledo Bend.

Peter check the results, it is not always locals winning. Ken Smith and David Waller are DFW guys that can win on Rayburn anytime. And Phil Marks

Peter check the results, it is not always locals winning. Ken Smith and David Waller are DFW guys that can win on Rayburn anytime. And Phil Marks The individual names you have mentioned all live within a reasonable driving distance to Rayburn and Toledo in comparison to Central and West Texas etc. The whole deal is they're many lakes in Texas that can hold a BFL size tournament that they have never set foot on however the numbers thing continue to come up. How can you say it will be a low turn out if the organization has never been there? Comes right back to the statement that it is favoring a particular region of the state. Spread it out and try something new but that seems to be too difficult or is it the comfort zone thing?

It's 5-5 1/2hrs from killeen to Rayburn and another 30min to Toledo. I know the distances...I used to fish the BFL until they started catering to the Rayburn and Toledo Jack potters. Distance is an issue but the main issue is the repetitiveness of the locations. Until it changes and fishes Texas as a whole, the numbers will never be what they really truly want it to be. I for one will not participate until its leveled across the board.

A few tweaks and the variety would interest more anglers in my opinion. Feb-Lake Austin March-Rayburn April-Choke Canyon June- Lake Tawakoni Sept- Toledo for the two day

it kinda sucks that it's as far away as it is but i get it. you can still get a few from dfw, you can also pull from houston, did you see the crowds at the bass event in orange right down the road, not even to mention the la fishing fanatics. makes perfect since that all those options out weigh dfw crowd, plus how can you really be mad or tired of fishing those 2 lakes. if fork had a no slot they'd fish it every yr too, but then it might not be fork. good luck with the series to all involved, to those who are not involved quit whining and go fish what works for you instead of knocking a man's hard work.

Continue down the same path of no growth and repeat lakes. Eventually it will get you. If your not growing than your falling behind.

Please throw the North Texas guys a bone. Over 6.5 million people live in the DFW area. In BFL events during 2011-2013 Sam has averaged 111 boats and Toledo had 97 per event. Surely you can break even in a 100 boat tournament on Ray Roberts, Richland Chambers, maybe Lewisville or even Ray Hubbard.
February-South Texas, Choke Canyon? March-East Texas, Sam Rayburn April-N. Texas June-Central Texas. Austin, Belton, Waco? Sept-Toledo Bend I know life is not fair, and it is a business, but what annoys me is that all of the SE folks have the BFLs within 100 miles of them, and none of the events are within 200 miles of DFW.

Wonder if they could try North Cowboy division, and actually draw on 2 divisions?

Wonder if they could try North Cowboy division, and actually draw on 2 divisions? They tried that and it did not work. 50 to 60 boats per event in the DFW area while the La/Tx drew almost double. After the 2 years with low numbers they had to make a business decision. DFW was not good for them. I do wish they would try the Austin and San Antonio market. Fewer trails in this area and the ones that are here pull good numbers. The Hill Country has some damn good sticks too.

2009 Cowboy60 T-Bend 58 Rayburn 58 Texoma 45 Cedar Creek 59 Texoma Doesnt look like T-Bend or Rayburn was much different in that division. Thanks for posting those numbers. You can see that when they stay in SE Texas the draw is a lot larger.
In 2008 the entries for the first three DFW area Cowboy events added together do not equal the draw to the first La/Tx event.

The trail should be the called the Texas/Louisna division, not the Cowboy division.
The BFL is putting Louisiana ahead of the remining state of Texas.
What happened in 2012 when the trail favored Lousiana lakes?
