I'm about to get a few used baitcasters, and I wanted to get some advice for the best all-around line for bass? I've heard that fluorocarbon is the way to go for baitcasters, but don't want to spend money on different lines just yet as I don't fish for very large bass very often. I usually throw wacky rigged senkos, occasionally a chatterbait. Any help is appreciated. Thanks

Flourocarbon will be your best bet. You can literally do just about anything with it from crankbaits, spinnerbaits, and, of course, soft plastics. The only thing that fluorocarbon isn't good for is top water. With that being said, you cant go wrong with Seaguar Invisx or Sunline FC Sniper. Good luck with your search!

Depending on the use I use Stren Hi Viz, Triline XL and Power Pro Braid. Personally I have not found use for the flourocardon yet. It is a little heavier than Mono or Braid and maybe a little more invisible than others but not that much. I use the gold High visibility gold or Greens for worm fishing and to tell you the truth the fish seem to like it real well. In several instances the Hi-Viz stuff actually seemed to sort of attract the fish. I used both Hi-Viz and regular and got substantially more hits on the Hi-Viz. ??????

One thing that you need to look at is the diameter of the mono. LOL the only difference between regular lines and extra tuff lines a lot of times is that the "tuff" line is thicker than the "regular" line. Triline XL is just thinner than Triline XT and if I want heavier line I just buy a heavier stated test. If you look at the true breaking strength as compared for IGFA records you will see that they are both stronger than their stated test.

In general, as I understand it, the stated test is that out of a hundred yards the WEAKEST point on the line will be ABOVE that breaking strength. To make line extra "Tuff" they just use thicker line.

I no longer use mono. I use 30# PowerPro on my baitcasters and 20# PowerPro in my spincasters. No need to perform an olympic hookset maneuver as the braid doesn't stretch so a lot less jerking is needed for a solid hookset. The braid doesn't build up a memory, so there is no need to switch out the mono every 3 months. With braid, it lasts at least a year. I have not had any issues with fish allegedly seeing the line and not striking.

Sufix Siege mono. No memory and 15-17lb is very strong and it will cast a mile. You will not need to re-spool as often.
