Results from the Tompkins annual dad and lads outing on Falcon lake. Always a great time when we get together!! July 29, 2013 Hot in more ways than one The fishing has been fairly consistent but the big bite takes tenacity and patience. The lake is dropping slowly and will hit 37 ft low over the next week unless we catch some rain. Water temps mid to high 80s. The most productive time to fish is in the mornings up to about 1pm. Rocky points have been the most productive bite, the fish in the 2-10 ft range tend to be Rats (a fish smaller than 2.5 pounds). Rats are out and pretty abundant when located, but are a pretty good way to pass time when the grind hits after the morning bite. I know, I know people dont come to Falcon Lake to catch rats with that being said the big fish we caught over the last 7 days have all come from the 9-22 ft range and you guessed it rock. Current Patterns - Shallow: 0-8 ft Squarebill crankbaits have been producing well around shallow rock and wood. For you Spinnerbait Fanatics they will catch them too, but I prefer the crankbait. Mid-Depth: 9-18 ft Look for rocky point and ledges at this range and if you can find some wood in it then you will want to throw out an anchor. The bait of choice has been either texas rigged or Carolina rigged in watermelon green orange. The most consistent big bite has been coming from the 13-18 ft range. Deep: 18 ft plus The deep bite is slow, but can be very rewarding. The 10.17 came from this range on a rocky ledge. The 10.17 was caught on watermelon green orange If you are headed down to Falcon anytime soon feel free to give me a call or send me a Pm. Great report Billy...and some nice fish catches for all of you !! That Skeeter was a fish catching boat before selling it to the Tompkins and looks like it still is. Those SK caps look good as well. Debra

I plan on going down this weekend and it will be my first time on Falcon. Reading some of the hazards and the Old Veleno Bridge is the main one I understand. Other than that, it is going to be HOT!

The lake will be a lonely place not a lot of boats rocking the heat.

Freaking 105 today boys. Burn a hole in Satans butt hot down in Zapata. Two bites in about 1:45 mins of fishing rocks. Called it a day.
