I too have been thinking about doing this. I have a 75 Gallon tank and all the equipment back from when i had a saltwater tank.
I dont know anyone with a private pond that i could get some fingerlings from.
Any suggestions on where to look? I am sure i can find some in a local pond, but i would like to keep it nice and legal :P.
I have found fingerlings for sale, but they are for stocking ponds and come in much larger quantities than i need.
I am guessing they are not something i am going to find in your average pet store.

Many small creeks in town have most species of fish. A very tiny hook tipped with a piece of nightcrawler will get you these fish. Or even throw a net in the deeper pockets.

More than likely, you could get a Guadalupe Bass if you are in hill country... Those would probably be a better aquarium bass, and they have awesome coloration

I had not thought about looking in creeks. That is a very good idea !

I had a 10 inch largemouth in a 125 gallon tank for a while it grew pretty quick and would eat feeder goldfish like no other! It would try to eat the smaller sun fish as well.
