What kinda gar you wanna catch ? Spotted gar or small long nose gar you can use bass pole with little lures or minnows ,
But bigger gar you gonna need strong line an pole ,
River legacy park has the river going through it , has pleanty of long nose an spotted gar

Have to go a bit further south before you have a real chance at hooking into an Alligator Gar. Otherwise, any part of the trinity river system in the DFW area will hold great numbers of Longnose and Spotted gar.

there are plenty of alligator gar in down town Dallas Plenty of Alligator Gar in down town Dallas? hmm.. you have me very intrigued by that response. I would have never guessed there were that many AGar in the Dallas trinity. Years ago I talked to several game wardens and they mentioned surveys that showed only a very, very small population. Where would be the best location to try to get these Dallas Alligator Gar?!?! Please share!!

so basically dawson what your saying is look for a area that has a tendancy to have a high food volume for gar and they will be there
Its not about how deep you can fish but by how you wiggle your worm

Wait...just so this old man can be clear, because when an experienced gar angler tells me there is Alligator Gar in down town Dallas, only 40 minutes from my house, well...that just gets me in the mood for an all nighter. lol.. So....are we talking closer to I30 or I45 on the Trinity? Thanks for any information you can provide.

I dunno, look on Google Earth. I just know they are in most of our Rivers that connect to the cost without to many interruptions. I am certain they are there if it is between Lake Livingston and a dam behind DFW lakes. Once you go above the first lakes you hit I don't know.

These are all in the head waters of the Trinity. Look at the last ones in line before you get into uninterrupted river. Once you pass those I am certain the area can hold them, whether or not it does all the time or not. The areas above those lakes is a maybe. From time to time people claim to see them.

They are all over the trinity just more in certain areas. Afew places by me that dumps out of hubbard about 10 miles away i have been spooled twice by them then gave up since i dont have the equipment to hold them at least not these ones they are too big for me. Ive caught many 3-4ft but not the ones that are 6ft and over by me that noone ever fishes for. Ive hooked two but didnt get to see much of them but in one spot they BLOW up the surface which surprised me then saw a guy hook one few years ago that was over 7ft. And before you ask i do know the difference between the gator gar and spotted gar. One place i only catch small gator gar and the other has a mix of either BIG gator gar and spotted gar with them so may go several times before you get the gator gar on but steady action all day long with the spotted gar
