EPIC O. H. Ivie, EPIC FUN-KAYAK BASS FISHING

Deric (Pelican) and I have been trying to get to O. H. IVIE all year and either weather/wind/work continually interfered with our plans. I have been able to get out to IVIE twice this year prior to this trip and on both of those trips fishing was very slow with no big fish.

Finally the stars aligned and we had a 3 day warming trend, days off and low wind forecasted (yah right its April, don�t believe that). So Friday afternoon we decide to head out. I call out to Elm Creek Village and Jerry at Elm Creek Village lets me have the last room available for our 2 day trip.

When we got to the lake Friday afternoon and we set up in the room then head out to the lake. The wind is gusting to 30 MPH (we knew in advance that Friday was going to be windy, we were there for Sat and Sun low wind prediction). We fished the boat ramp slough and right off the bat caught a small 14� largemouth. After that it got tough. We ventured up Elm Creek and picked up a few more before calling it at dark.

Sat April 27, 2013
Got up at 5:30 am and headed over for some breakfast at Elm Creek Village. We unload and hit the water a bit late for us, 6:45 am. I catch a few bass between 14 and 20 inches. We saw bass were chasing shad in the back in of coves. It was hard to get the chasers to hit. Throughout the day it was pretty tough fishing with a bite here and there. Finally about 5PM I hook into a real decent 23� bass. A bit later I get my 1st smallmouth of my life. I have never experienced a wildcat on the end of my line before. Man those smallies are crazy!

Deric comes over and borrows a lure from me and quickly he hooks in to a nice monster 24.5 inch bass just of a main lake point. I get over and take a few pics. The evening bite Saturday proved to be good. At dark we head in. We fished a solid 15 hours and boated about 8 Bass for the day with 2 nice ones.

Sunday April 28, 2013
We decided that we hit the water before light. Up at 5am and as soon as Jerry opens the restaurant we get some breakfast burritos to go. Those are Great! We unload and are on the water at 6:20 and start paddling out. This morning was a bit chilly compared to Saturday but we had a calm wind. The bass were not chasing the shad like they were the day before. We don�t let that phase us and keep pressing hard. Just after sunrise I turn into the back end of a cove and cast up by a tree and BAM!!! I hook in to a nice monster 25� bass. After a good fight I land it. I was shaking so hard. Those kind of fish make the time and effort worth it. Not long after that I hear Deric yell out and hes got another huge bass over 24� on. He lands it. We look at each other and simultaneously say �Wow we have had a great trip, and its still morning�! Well the rest of the day was pretty tough. Almost zero bites after the sun got up. The day got hot and there was no breeze till later in the afternoon and the wind was back with a vengeance. At about 6pm we decide the we are done. We Pack up and head out.

These are the kind of trips you live for. Fishing with a friend just tops it all off. Deric Brings Luck. Everytime we got out of sight for a bit and right when he would reappear I would hook up. Thanks Deric for sharing this great experience with me.

Good weekend but don�t get me wrong. This was not easy fishing. You won�t go out and in 10 casts catch a big fish. You will fish all day 5:45 am to 8:00PM and if you�re lucky get one good bite. It�s not for the faint of heart. This lake requires dedication. Have it and you will get rewarded, if you don�t have it, save yourself time money and energy and don�t go.

Mike, thanks for setting up this great trip and showing me the ropes at Ivie. I think all the hours you spent on the video was time well spent as it turned out great.
I flew over Ivie yesterday on the way back from Phoenix AZ and I swear I could hear it calling our names, looking forward to another great adventure in the near future.

A+ mike, will done will done. They just keep getting better and better. I most say it did yank at my heart a bit. At the end it made me feel like it was your passing video..lol. I guess it was the song at the end..
