looking at a 97 300 zx, but after looking at the pictures of it i believe it is a 96 . it has a splash well and the deck does not run all the way to the console on the drivers side plus it has a mercury . i know yamaha bought skeeter in late 96 or early 97 and the motor could have been changed out to a mercury.
am i wrong on this.I told the owner to look on the plate on the back to make sure.

My 97 202c has no splashwell and deck goes all the way to console this sounds like my old 94 so I would say its a 96

Doug's website is the best place to research Skeeters. He has all the brochures from past Skeeters on there. Here is the 97 300ZX, and you can toggle around and look at the 96 brochure.
