Ok guy would like go give y'all a report on the barge and how the fishing is going. The crappie are really really good! The sand bass are in thick. And the hybrids are as good as I have every seen!! The crappie are in the shallows at night time 2 1/2' to 7' they get some in the deep water but not as much. The sand bass and hybrids are in the deep and shallow. We got them as Little as 3' as deep as 30'. The shad are really thick! You hook the when you reel in almost every cast. I have seen 8-10 ppl leave with there limits of hybrids in the last 2 weeks. They all have been hitting on dark colors and orange. Black night. Cajun cricket. Baby crawdad. Screamer. Bluegrass. Sunrise. Are some of the good ones we have been getting them off of. The weather was bad but the fishing was good! Post any ?'s you may have and I will help you out.

Caught 23 sandies last night. There were some hybrids being caught, but mostly sand bass. Not crappies, but I had fun though.

The crappie were biting GOOD last night as well. I probably caught 20-30 and seen a ton more caught..

Most fish are being caught outside, but you have to find out where (just fish where a lot of other people are) but don't white rock people and fish right on top of them there is plenty of room and plenty of fish out there that you don't need to fish right on top of people. I haven't fished a minnow out there and just fished straight jigs and been a pretty consistent bite. Make sure you have your fishing license as well the game warden has been coming out more often due to the number of fish being caught (and people have been know to call the game warden out there as well if they know people don't have a license)

Id say this GO AT NIGHT day time well waste of time but any time fishing is not a waste.
Its clear to me the last few weeks are good at night the sand bass are in and the hybrids to. And the crappie are in. If you go be sure to go outside and see what is going on lots of fish are found. The shad have been in real heavy and the fish I have taken home have a load in them. Last I was out red and black anything was working for me. For a first time for me at the barge I was casting my jig and doing a slow retrieve for the hybrid and crappie not just jigging. It is sure fun to catch a hybrid on a 6# rigged crappie pole.

Like it was said b4 the crappie where in there thick last night!!!!!!!! It was really cool! Had fun getting them. The bite slowed way down about 1 hour after the wind picked up. The sand bass thicker. They where there all night! Most of the time every cast. I got 3 hybrids just B4 dark. Saw a few more hot about the same time. Only got one pic last night wish I could have had a pic of the crappie going out the door but to busy getting crappie to stop for a pic.

This is two limits of sand bass.

Ok. Here it goes on the cast net. If I am working I do not have a problem with it now if the other guy are working they most likely say no. The boss said no cast nets and said he would make a sign for up the. I have never saw the sign. So I just let it happen.


The only rule is to be respectfully of the fishermen out there and don't throw with in 15 yards of them.

There is one thing I don't enjoy at the barge: People smoke inside there. There are people who do not smoke, and there are children and women too. I hope there will be a sign like anywhere in the public use area: "NO SMOKING!"

I hear ya, CrazyFisherman! Just the other night, I was fishing inside cause it was really cold. I'm minding my own business and trying to enjoy my cigar, but I couldn't because those damn cigarette smokers green-housed the place and their nasty smelling smoke just killed the arouma of my Flor De Los Antilles! How can anyone enjoy a good cigar in a place that smells like cigarette smoke?

Update. Me and some of my buddy's fished last night. We did ok. I got about 13 keeper crappie no hybrids few and sand bass. Did not stay to late to see if they came in. Over all it was slower then the last week or two. But still good.


Sorry about the smoking I don't like it but it is the way it is right now. Maybe one day if we cook food again we will not have smoking inside anymore.

the barge was on fire at the far point last night from 9pm till about 1am... i caught a total of 23 keepers. i started off fishing 14ft deep with minnow of a slip bobber and it was too easy. i switched to a jig and they were killing em.. no hybrids were caught when i was there but they were slaying the crappie shallow once again. I was out there with the black hoodie and rangers cap... nice meeting everyone last night!

I may try to get uot there tonight to see what all the fuss is about. Id like to see if I cant catch a crappie or two. when you are saying that the crappie are shallow...are they on top of brush under the barge? or outside of it? i have never been there so I am not sure what I am walking into.

Go out at the bathrooms and also at the point to the north outside.
Just look for the crowds and you see the spots. Also try casting to the bank on the north side you will see a barge on the bank the Hybrids have been found close to the bank. Its going to be cold so dress for it that wind off the lake is cold. Good luck and report back. If Mike is working he will tell you what has been working.

Update: hi guys. Was out there last night with are buddy's. I got about 14 +/- crappie. 15 Kepler sand bass. My buddy got 13 keeper crappie and 3 hybrids and some sand bass. The crappie I got was just after dark in the shallow water. 6-10 foot.


Have not worked in the AM in a few days so I can say what the day bite is doing. This I know right now the bite is some what choppy they turn on then you kill them and then it dies. Then latter it picks back up. If I was going to say the best time to fish I would say 3 or 4 PM and stay till about 12 to 3 am. That's the best time right now.

Sorry I did not get any pics this time.

Anyone who has been fishing the last few days if you got a pic or report post it please.

I've been catching a lot of sand bass out there! Last Saturday I took home 19 + 1 crappie and threw back twice that many. Sunday was a little slower but still caught some, same with Monday. When I got out there last night at 8:30 pm, my first cast off of the 1st point outside I caught a nice sandy, 2nd cast too! Missed one on the 3rd cast but the 4th, 5th, 6th cast... and so on. Within 10 minutes I had 10 fish! Then all of a sudden they turned off. Left a little after midnight with 16 catches...
They are biting on Black Night and Watermelon Wine Jigs. Still haven't caught a hybrid yet but have seen a lot of them caught.

one guy was slaying with a bobby garland crazy turkey or chicken... it had a orangish/pink color to it.. while everyone else was catching here and there with the white jigs. he was catching nearly every cast or drop...

Got my first hybrids out their last week on some zappers.

im fairly new to fishing the fishing jigs but had great success with just throwing it out 20 to 30 feet and letting it fall back to me while i slowly reel it back in with a few twitches here and there. caught 15 doing this the other night with a white jig with a pink head

@atmadison, Talk to bigmike. He's full of good info and overall nice guy who works there so easy to find. Denton Pond Jumper as well if you catch him out there. If you see me (short black guy fishing the points or shallows usually) out there, I'll certainly try to help out with the bass as well.

Think I may head out there tonight since the weather seems mild. I'll be wearing a black hoodie with a blindfolded clown's face on the front. If anyone sees me, say hello.

Was out Thursday night. I did not get one crappie. Lol. But got 2 hybrids lost 1 more. The sand bass... Thick as ever. Not very many crappie at night but I know of about 10 hybrids got threw out the day and night. From what I know there was only one guy gitting crappie in the day time. With that said there was only like 3 out therein the day time. So who really knows. The barge got moved around so we half to find the snags all over.

I think the day bite for hybrids will be good this weekend.

One more thing. I am the fat guy with the big red Beard I work 1 week on 1 week off for the most part. Now if any one has any ?'s just ask me. I am glad to help anyone out with any type of fishing. Just the other day I showed a guy how to get some buffalo the 1st one he had got cents he was 10 years old. He looked to be in his 40's now. You can PM me or post on here.

Update. Last night was really slow on crappie. I only saw about 15 crappie. Sand bass good if you could stand the cold. Lol. Hybrids where there if you know where to look. I got 3. 7 or 8 total last night.

Update: was working last night. I was told the crappie where really good in the day time. They where bitting really good all the way till 10 or so. Then the would turn on and off the rest of the night. Sand bass where there on the 2 far points. They got some hybrids in the day time. I could not find one last night.

As I said b4 I think today will be really good. I was happy to see the carppie picked back up.

There were some really nice stringer that left last night. I was just really busy so did not get but 1 pic. Sorry.

It's probably around 30 fow out at the deepest point straight down.

Update: crappie were on and off all night but they where there. Sand bass thick thick thick!!!!!!!! Hybrids good.

I stated the night off with a 16" sand bass. Then next cast got a 20' hybrid. Then few crappie and sand bass. But in the AM right after day light I got 4 hybrids in less then 20 mins!! Biggest was 23".

Crappie where all shallow. As always. Some off the point. The color was blue thunder!!! Some where using black night and other dark colors.

Can someone give me a clue. I am have been to the barge a couple of times and have caught more LMB than sandies and hybrids. Actually I believe i hooked a hybrid but it threw the hook. I am throwing baby shad lures on 1/16 and 1/8 jig heads. I downsized to 4lb mono. How fast do you guys retrieve the jig? I think that is the only thing that I could be messing up. Thanks

Try the outside points for sandies. That's where I've had by best luck. I always retrieve as slow as possible without touching the bottom when fishing shallows and when fishing the deeper points, I tend to either cast out and let the jig fall back to me or let it sink slightly before retrieving slowly as it sinks. I always find that slight twitching action sporadically helps as well both while retrieving or letting it sink.

update:
went out last nite from about 9pm to 3am and had constant action all night on the right side point with the light pole. i limited out on sandies. they would not hit my jig if my life depended on it. minnows on a slip anywhere from 6ft to 14ft was the killzone. it was windy but and freezing but they were chasing the shad all night. threw it anywhere that had light touching water. i have pictures but not enough patience to figure out how to post. ill text anyone the pics if they would post them for me!? just pm me
