We sold several Frontiers at our recent Mariner Sails' Sailing & Paddlesports Expo. One went out with the 360 swivel seats and the 7" pedestal extension. The owner is over 6' and a muscular frame. He reported back that the seat worked great with a minimal difference in stability.

Thanks for the review. I'm looking to get a tandem for my daughter and I, but I want to be able to go out solo and also river camp. I had never seen one of these before the mariner sails open house last week. This certainly seems a lot more robust than the other boats I have been looking at. I do worry about catching a lot of wind sitting up so high though? Has that been a problem?

It does catch some wind but that is to be expected in such a high seating position. The seat base can be flipped over and a standard type kayak seat can be attached sitting you a little lower in the boat. This is not a boat I would want out in open water on a windy day but rivers and creeks no problem. Calm days out on the lake would also be no issue. It paddles very well standing as well.

I thought I had decided on a Big Tuna . But I think I need to check out these first.

I don't go looking to paddle in rough water, but on those days when I come out of one of my favorite coves and Big Sam has went from glass to 2'or 3' whitecaps, I sure do appreciate the extra stability of the Frontier. Wind is just part of the sport and let's face it, we are all riding on hollow plastic logs, so we are all getting blown around to some degree. I don't worry about the wind. I just hunker down and paddle!

Its true that all kayaks are going to be effected by the wind but some more then others. I paddled a Native Mantaray for instance that was great in the wind. Not that I would feel unsafe in rough conditions In the Frontier, just wouldnt want to paddle it across a windy lake because of the extra effort! In my opinion, there is not a kayak built that will handle every condition better then any other boat but the Frontier is a great boat for its use.
