I have owned a 8ft Power Pole on my old boat and love it, but am selling it and want another one on my new boat? Question is which is better, I like the new way the Talon deploys vs Power Pole extension. Have read a few bad reviews on Talons getting stuck in the down position which is scary. Any thoughts Pros and Cons of both ?

if your talon does get stuck, there is a nut you can turn to manually bring it up. if the cable broke, it may not do that either though. with the talon there is no hydraulic pump its all electric. with the power pole if it does get stuck down you can always cut the line and push it up and tie it but oil would go everywhere. if you think you might want the humminbird 360 i believe the only way you can have 2 poles is to go with the talon, there is a extension that holds both on one bracket. hope this helps

Thanks, only looking to afford one only, just not sure which one to get this time. That's good info about the Talon.. I'm sort of leaning toward the Talon just because its new and different.

Another important factor to consider is if there is enough room for a hydrolic pump. If you do not then the Talon will be the only choice. IMO, with the improved bracket the talon is the best bang for the buck.

Hey guys, I just wanted to chime in here real quick about a few things. I see you commented about the extension deployment of the Power-Pole and I wanted to make you all aware of the benefits of this design. With the design of a Power-Pole's deployment the flexibility, strength and holding power remains very consistent throughout its entire range of motion. Whether youre in 1 ft. or 10 ft. of water none of these things are compromised because the length of the spike and the length of the u-channels(arms) never change. No matter the position everything is consistent, it is simply in a different position. I hope this makes sense, if not please let me know and I can elaborate. In the unlikely event of a Power-Pole getting stuck down, there really is no need to unhook, cut or disable any piece of the hydraulic system to allow the unit to come up. EVERY Power-Pole has built in drive off protection. Whether you use a rope, landing net or simply put the boat on plane for a short distance, thats up to you, but is a very simple and reliable process for retracting a disabled or stuck Power-Pole. If its new and different that you are after be sure to check out the C-Monster operated line of Power-Poles that are now completely wireless. They also come with a wireless 2 button key fob and a wireless dash switch which has speed and individual controls if using a dual system. Customize or update your system on the fly with the C-Monster Android smart phone app as well. Please be sure to let us know if you have any further questions about our products! Fireman, Every unit has a built in relief valve to allow hydraulic fluid to bypass internally when the unit is put under enough upward pressure. So during an accidental drive off with the unit in the deployed position the force of the boat getting on plane will simply push the unit up to a safe position. This can be achieved by using a rope or landing net as well to pull the unit up if the unit ever became disabled or stuck down. Hope this helps!

Do any of the Talon owners fish with a back seater? Seems like it would be in the way of casting.

Actually when they are up they protect my Cowling from getting beat up. If you want them out of the way for someone in the back you can add the Tilt Bracket and they are totally out of the way and not dragging the anchore.

Skeeter doesn't offer it as an option new.

I too have been thinking about adding Talon or PP. I live on Lake Palestine and for the last year everytime someone came by fishing my brush loaded dock I'd ask them about these. PP people love theirs and Talon owners love theirs also. PP seem to out number Talons 8-10 to 1. Some of this due to length of time on market. One thing EVERYONE had in common is that EVERY boat from now on will have one......or two!!!

I have a Talon and happy with it so far. My buddy has this happen to his PP last weekend. BUT the rest of the story - he called PP first thing Monday morning and they are shipping him a new bracket and hardware to fix it at zero cost to him. Needless to say, they have his business from now on. Service like that says a lot for a company.

It's still there and yes it will have more obstructions to climb over but I don't plan on using it either but if I do it's still there and can be used to get back in the boat.

Don't have any experience with the Talon, but love my PP and their customer service is awesome. Had an older model and a couple parts needed replaced and it was no problem, even out of warranty. Heard they will replace a splintered pole, too. If I ever need another, I will get another PP.

Just got my PP installed last week..WOW!! Will never be without one again. Have been fishing in high winds where before would have called it quits!! I only have one at this point but might be saving for a second PP. You learn real quick how to position boat with the winds at your back. Power Poles and trolling motors 2 of the greatest inventions in bass fishing...and CATCHING!!

I have no jack plate on my bay boat. Do I have to pull the bolts out that hold the motor onto the boat to install the sandwich bracket? I guess the motor swivels , but I would think this would cause the motor to be misaligned to the boat. Help put my worries at ease please. Are there any videos i can see where thia is done?I want to pull the trigger bad on either a PP or Talon soon. Thanks

Installed dual Talons on my Skeeter 21i this weekend. Easy project and no hangups. The most difficult part was trying to find a hot ignition wire so I could hook up the alarm that sounds if you start the big motor and the poles are down. That new bracket is a beast and is rock solid. My footswitch should be in on Wednesday. For reference, the top of these are 81 inches off the floor; and 37 inches from the top cap at the transom to the top of the Talons. I will have to raise them about three inches when I get to the lake to get them the recommended 4-inches above the bottom of the boat (on the chine they are nearest to). I will adjust them back and forth to get through my garage doors. Takes about 2 minutes with a 1/2-inch wrench.

I can't help but to say those things sure look wierd on the back of a boat. Functional no doubt, but wierd looking for sure. Every time I see one going down the road i catch myself thinking "where's the black smoke" like a diesel.
At least my boat and truck are paid for, woo hoo!
