Andrew from KC Kayaks asked me if I could find a little time today to get away from the show and paddle the K 12 to see what its all about. I had a cubscout event I had to attend this afternoon. Since I had to leave the show for that already I figured why not take it for a short paddle when that was over.

The first thing I noticed was how easy it was to unload this boat. At 62lbs it has to be one of the lightest boats I have had the pleasure of paddling. Once on the water I noticed that it felt the same way. I do think it would paddle better with some weight in it much like my Old Town Camper did. The next thing I noticed was that this boat is not the slow barge it appears to be! Granted I have paddled boats that paddle much better but I was suprised at the speed of this hull. Not to say that its a fast boat but it sure isnt slow.

The seating does need some improvement wich as I understand is on the way. It will flip over putting it in a higher position wich I found better for paddling. In this high position it has another use. Andrew showed me pics of himself standing on top of the seat casting a flyrod. I honestly thought it was done just for the photo. No way these guys actually fish from this position. Certainly not a guy my size right? Andrew calls it fishing from the top shelf. Well,Dan,heres your pic you requested!

Yep,thats 6'3" 260lb me standing on top of that seat! I was a bit nervous getting up there but once up it was easy to balance.
In short, this isnt the perfect boat for everyone but that boat has yet to be built. It paddles decent. Actually manuevers very well. I couldnt imagine a more stable fishing platform. The seat isnt the greatest compared to most kayaks I have paddled unless you are standing on it! With an improved seat it will be a good quality boat for chasing whatever flippered friends you target. If you havnt made it over to the tackle/boat show at APT yet to check them out,be sure to make it out tomorrow!

Thanks for the review Joe! Those yaks were starting to grow on me at the show.

Thanks Joe. After you had to go Andrew pulled up the CAD drawings of the new seat on the computer. Looks like it will be similar to the new seats that we're seeing on kayaks. Nice tall back made from good material. It will still mount on the track system so you can move it forward or back as you please. My thought is to have the new seat for sitting and paddling and the current seat up front for sight fishing beds in the spring. After talking to Andrew tonight it sounds like the new seats will be out very soon.

Exactly the set up I was thinking Dan. Got a good idea for that front seat/standing platform that Im going to pass on to Andrew at the show today.Maybe you can take a few minutes today to get it out for a paddle.

Not that I don't love my Ride 115, but had I known about this boat I probably would of bought it. It suits my style of fishing so much more.

This KC Kayak was on display at the FunNSun show in Hurst about a week ago.... it does look like a nice Kayak... the kayak is nice & lite, looks like it could possibly crack but the guy at the show said if you ever did get a crack KC Kayaks would replace youk Kayak.
It does look like it would be slightly slower than my Perception Sport 12...

I will be getting my hands on one of these soon to give it a real test down the river. I will be sure to post a new review of it after taking a beating down the river. I don't think it will dissapoint!

We've sold quite a few K12's over the past year, and haven't had a single complaint or any damage to any of the sold units. The manufacturing process is the same as the Diablo brand. Same type plastic and assembly. We've also sold a lot of the Diabo kayaks with no complaints or warranty issues.

The plastic on that boat is not weak. It may "look" it but its not. Now the plastic on the Perception Sport's..... That stuff is weak. Friend of mine started leaking after barely a year us use right around the scuppers. and just by feeling it and attempting our repairs you can tell the plastic is very thin and weak.
