It was very poor fishing this past weekend. The tide was extremely low. I have never seen it this low and I have been going frequently (twice a month) for the past three years. The fishing was so bad not even the hard head catfish were hitting. I spoke with a local and he said fishing had been bad for at least 2 weeks.
We were down there fron Dec 27th - Jan 7th and caught limits of black drum, several nice reds and lots of keeper sheeps head. 3 days in a row we caught over 200 fish. One location, same spot, using dead shrimp. The bigger the shrimp the bigger the fish. It was pretty insane. The blacks ranged from 2lbs to 9lbs. And everyone we talked to said fishing was horrible. We just nodded and said yea.

I love fishing Rockport, but i have to work hard to catch fish. I typically use artificial lures, but lately i have been using dead shrimp bought from the local harbor shrimpers. Are you fishing off shore? I fish from the beach and mainly piers when fishing with bait.
Sorry. We were fishing from my boat but withing 20ft of shore. most were caught less than 10ft from the bank. The water was really low though no matter what tide. It looked like it was a local lake. I didnt know it fluctuated that much during winter. We were fishing in and around Estes cove

A strong north wind can push out a lot of water.
