Does anyone know any good bank fishing spots on the Red(texas side) near I35? My son has been wanting to try it. He has health issues so i am looking to not have to go too far. Thanks for the help as i am new to the site.

I grew up fishing the Red. The stretch below highway 75 is better, more water. You can park below the bridge pretty close to the river. If you want to catch fish you will need to take your shoes off and walk the river. Most spots are 6 inches deep - you need to find the pools of deeper water. Most of the deeper holes are right off the bank. I use a freeline method with a small split shot and small treble hook. You hide the hook in a smaller size shad head and let her rip! Cast into the pools and keep your bail open until a fish takes off with the bait. I have caught several blues up to 55 lbs like this. I lost one several years back I would guess at 80lbs.....I forgot to mention this is only possible when they are not running the generators of flood gates at the dam. You can also PM Capt Steve Barnes for some good info.....He is a THE MAN on the Red!

To be quite honest.....I don't think that stuff works to well in cold water. Shad or any other FRESH cut bait is the ticket! Daves Ski and Tackle has Black Salty's which apparently make killer cut bait. Exit 72 off the highway on the left hand side!
