I have always believed a tight knot like a reverse clinch knot or a palomar knot was better to hold the jig at a 90 degree angle or horizontal in the water. I always adjust my jig to return it to a 90 degree angle after a thump or a catch. It seems to make a difference.
It seems a lot of folks use loop knots. It would seem to me that a loop knot would always have a jig hanging straight down vertical while dead stickin'.
Do minnows swim standing vertical or horizontal?
Which do you use and why?

+1. I think loop knots are too weak.

I like a Palomar. So I can slide it over to lay horizontal My fishin partner likes a loop because he states it gives it a free action
It's just a preference thing! Use what works for you

Me too. I tried the loop knot for a few trips on the water & did not like it. Seems very weak to me & like you said, makes the jig hang funny when still. Some people swear by it, I don't care for it. Palomar knot for me.

I currently use palomar and/or loop knot. not sure which is best, I alwayed used palomar until i was told that a loop knot is better. it looks like the jig will hang funny, but I was told that when in the water it will hang correctly.....

Loop knot. I've caught some pretty nice hybrids while crappie fishing. I used light line and loop knot and landed the fish with no problems.

I have always used a improved cinch knot. I like a tight knot so my jig can hang correctly.

Bobcat, I use balanced jig heads. They hang perfectly at 90 degrees with a loop knot. I use a triple overhand loop knot.

Ask the fish which knot? When fishing jigs just like minnow fishing, sometimes you hook in back in middle dorsal, sometimes more towards tail, and sometimes through the nose, use two jig rods one with loop one with palomar see which they like best. I do get hungup more with the loop, palomar or cinch knot seems to let the jig head push the jig off limbs in heavy cover.
