What is the best small baitcast reel for rigging an 8'-10' crappie pole. I know some of y'all fish with baicast reels instead of spinning reels, and I figured I'd give it a try. All my baitcast reels are for bass. I was hoping they made something smaller for crappie.

I like the Daiwa Megaforce baitcast reels with the twitchin bar for verticle jigging timber or bridges. I'm sure there are much smaller baitcasters out there though.

I purchased a couple DAIWA Laguna reels early this year and have been very satisfied with them. They are small, light weight, and thus far very durable. I have one paired with an 8' PA crappie rod and the other on a 12' PA crappie rod.

I use Pinnacle low profile baitcasters on all of my 8' and 10' PA jiggin poles. Can get them at WalMart pretty cheap and I've never had a problem with any of them.

h20 mettle baitcast isn't the smallest, but it is light and handles well. I have 5 i use for crappie. academy has them on sale now for 30 bucks. very durable from my experience so far.

I did have 2 H2O Mettle reels I caught on sale at Academy a few years ago but I really prefer left hand retrieve so I found 2 of these at the Gander mtn. site during a warehouse sale for $29 each. Great little reel's.

I went with some vintage Ryobi V MAG 3 reels from the 80's. Found on ebay over time. Usually $10-$15. Very small and light weight with all the features of a full-on quality bass baitcaster. 4.1/1 ratio, 6 bearings, weighs 6oz, level wind, holds 90 yds 12 lb line. Feel perfect on my jigging rods.

I like the "flippen switch" to let line out. Dang, maybe I need a "twitching bar" too :-)

I've got a couple of the Daiwa Laguna's on the 8' Pro Anglers I fish timber with. I'm impressed at the price point. No big crappie yet but they handled a hybrid on RC this summer just fine.

I just like the twitch bar because it reels up the line for you(cranks it up about a turn or so) and will free up your other hand to hold the line and work the jig.

Yes sir those VMags make great crappie reels. I personally think Ryobi should bring them back. I have two of them and continue looking for more.
