Just got a new DI/SI unit and it's working fine except the 2d at any speed over 10 mph. I suspect my tranducer is a little high (tried to use the holes already present), but would like some input. I have seen other transducers in this spot on a skeeter, so I'm assuming it will work here.

You have the Humminbird 598 or 798 Side Imaging unit.
What you have done is mount the unit and transducer, you should do the proper INSTALL that considers your hull and its performance.
For your hull, you should be using a shoot-thru 83/200 kHz transducer for on-plane depth readings. That transducer is the XP 9 20 Along with that you need the AS SIDB Y cable to connect the two transducers to the display.
Additionally the location you chose will cause the left SI crystal to get echoes from the motor mount. A better location would be with the mount beside the motor mount with the bottom of the mount at the bottom of the transom with the transducer hanging below the transom step so the left side SI pulse can "see" past the motor mount. That is the proper setup for your boat. The Compact SI transducer is the standard application world-wide. A high performance stepped transom hull is not a "standard" application.
One size does not fit all.

Thanks. I had a Garmin below the step that worked great at high speeds, you can probably still see those holes in the pictures. My question is this, the side imaging is working fine in it's current location (no interference from motor)...do you think I have a chance of getting it positioned correctly for 2d high speed there or my best chance is to go below the step where the garmin was?

One more little detail, if you had another transducer in that location, it wouldn't work over 10 mph either, there is no water on it at that speed and above. For an externally mounted transducer to function, it has to be at or below the bottom of the hull. You are 6"-10" from that. Where the OTHER holes have been patched on the lower level would be a good location for some hulls, but that transducer will not stay latched in the mount at the speeds your boat is capable of.

Thanks Wayne. That helps a lot...wish I didn't have to go with another transducer, but that's what I'll do.
appreciate it kb

Wayne would this be the same cable i would need for 898 I have the factory shoot thru that skeeter put in the boat but I run off my jack plate mounted ducer for my 898 and it sucks after 10mph also.

Yes, the purpose of the AS SIDB Y cable is to disconnect the 83/200 KHz crystal in any Humminbird Side Imaging transducer and connect a separate Humminbird 83/200 kHz transducer in its place. The combination of the two transducers function as a single whole Side Imaging transducer. There is no switching, menu changes, automatic selection or magic-- just plain electrical connections.
