He's good as long as he has full-coverage, it could take a while to settle the claim though. I keep mine stored and up-date the policy frequently on the personal property coverage, G-Loomis rods are expensive and should be endorsed properly. Non-boat items depend on which boat insurer he has. My "Full Coverage" boat insurance policy (State Farm)is common and includes only what is bolted to the boat....not any stolen or lost rod/reels/tackle and sonar electronics. My home owners policy, also with State Farm, covers the loss of non-boat attached items such as all the rods, reels, electronics, tackle, but such policies have very big deductibles expressed as a % of full home value. So basically nothing much more than the boat, motor & trailer often is really covered. And policies on a full loss may pay only the typical value of an average used boat of that model and age. Policies have to be EXAMINED CLOSELY TO KNOW WHAT IS AND IS NOT REALLY "FULLY COVERED".

Insurance of all types is just legalized racketeering IMO. They love to sell it and collect premiums, but when it's time to pay a claim, there is always an exclusion, catch, deductible, etc.......

Maybe Kingsbury took it to Lubbock with him! No disrespect concerning your boat, I hate thieves! I hope you recover your boat!

That boat is in Florida by now. Probably hid it out one night and then drove straight thru the next might. It's the key place to take them according to law enforcement. I hope so much that these guys are caught and are prosecuted. I had a custom rifle stolen from my truck the day I picked it up. Never felt so helpless and violated in my life. powdr

Reid's Dad here. Boy is this fun.. Just put an itemized list together for the insurance company and police. Start at the bow and go to the transom some day, and carefully list all that is in your boat - it will make you sick! I put a value of 15K on the boat (8K hull 7K motor), and with everything else that we all carry down the road and lake his came up to... 29K. When you start counting Ranger lifejackets, the Q-Beam in storage, the net, culling system, spare prop, cover, and everything else in the boat it adds up quick. Keep in mind this was a college kids boat, lord knows what it would be for mine carrying twice the 'stuff' he does, and all of it newer and better.
We have heard from people as far away as Wisconsin responding to the post about the boat. I may meet Corvettes, Rolls Royces, trucks, buses, whatever, and never look, but when I meet someone pulling a boat, I look at it. With this many people looking, somebody will see it sooner or later. I'm afraid of what we will get back if we ever do.
A few words of advice learned the hard way:
Know your insurance policy - The coverage is typically XXX on the boat or 'hull', and XXX on the motor, and XXX on the trailer - to add up to what you probably paid for the rig (especially if financed). You may be offered an extra endorsement for all the rest (electronics, Power Poles, tackle, rod, reels, lifejackets fire extinguisher....) but the additional endorsement package has a limit. Mine is $1,500.00 - not going very far for the replacement of all that was in the boat. The 'additional endorsement' was offered and bought back in 1993, and $1,500 seemed like plenty. I should have updated it somewhere along the way. Especially when you start to add Power Poles, and expensive new accessories.. lesson learned.
Even though for darn near 20 years I've been paying insurance on this boat at a rate based on a value of $17,000.00 total, the fact that it's been stolen doesn't mean that I'll get a check for 17K. As I said above we have to 'declare' values of the parts - boat, motor, and trailer, but in the event of a 'total loss' as this is, I'm going to get what they decide 'fair market value' is for my boat based on others of similar age currently for sale. If yours is in excellent condition, be darn sure that you have pictures to document it, and date them as well. On the flipside, if yours is older, and been treated rough, and is pretty much worn out, you may want to lower the declared values. I just went through this with a totaled Suburban, and if you do your homework they will see things your way, but be ready for a long confrontational process.
Finally, if you kid is away at college, or you live in rented property, get renter's insurance! We've found that the renter's policy that he has for his college house/dorm will likely apply and extend to this loss, and help to make-up for some of what is not covered by the boat policy. Rented facility, why not?
There is no way that this ends 'good', at best you hope to minimize the loss, and down time. Insurance companies don't lose money, and even if we get a 'square deal' we'll still loose. We have USAA insurance, and they are always a pleasure to work with, but I expect this will take some time. The 'good' of this situation is the great efforts and offers that we have received from the fishing community. Reid used my boat to fish the SFA tourney on Rayburn last weekend, but 2 other people offered him their boats. My reward offer was covered by Red Ranger herein, and Santone Lures - one of the Aggie's sponsors is really helping him with tackle. Great friends are offering their 'used' rods and reels. The fishing brotherhood is a great group of people.
My offer still stands of $1000.00 for the recovery and arrest, if others want to match it, great. To everyone EXCEPT the human garbage that stole my boat, have a blessed, safe, and Merry Christmas.

So sorry for the loss of the boat and everything in it, being an insurance agent myself its always a good idea to get with your agent to review what you have before its too late to be sure you are properly covered. Will keep my eyes open as well down here in South Texas. Debra

Reid, I'm really sorry for your loss. I'm afraid that your rig might well be in Mexico by now. Sure hope I'm wrong, and also sure hope you get a good reimbursement from your insurance companies. This really sucks.
