I just made a 25 hook Trotline and im super pumped about setting it out. I needed some best practices and ideas on how to catch some big cats with a trotline. My question is, how deep [/u should I set it out? I also know that live bait or cut bait is best for big cats, is bluegill legal here in TX to use as baitfish? [u]what other baits are you having luck with in this winter weather? can I use treble hooks on a trotline? if so whats the best stink bait? I have been using Danny Kings original and its been working.

I will be setting in out in Lewisville lake or Ray Roberts on lone Oak bridge area. Any good locations you guys recommend in the Denton, sanger, lewisville, decature, and surrounding area?

+1

this lake is just too small for trotlines and the locals don't like em much. no really any big fish here either - mostly all baby channels.

If you were rod and reel type guy why wouldn't you try to catch them with a rod and reel? why don't you try it at lake ray roberts? you just said you've seen people do good there...

Ray Bob would be good. It has lots of timber. I have never heard of anyone using treble hooks on a trotline. There is too much traffic on Grapevine and Lewisville for trotlines. Somone will end up cutting it. Take your cast net and throw for shad in the marina for gigantic gizzard shad.

Lga043, aka Larry, will tell you there is no shad in Ray Roberts, but he is full of bologna...he just wants to keep all those gizzards to himself.

Kevin,

Thanks buddy for some great info, cast nets are def the way to go for bait. I found a pond in the denton area thats drying out and have been using my net out there for my last few trips.
