After I launched my boat, I picked up an old man on the dock who said he wanted to go fishing. Lets Go!!!!!! We fished a spot hear and a spot there and with a few in the box, the old man said go in that cove, line up that fence post with that willow tree and get in 24 FOW. I lined up the cords that were given and found a brush pile on a little ridge. We caught 3 or 4 quickly. I dropped back down and my rod loaded up heavy, set the hook and landed a TOAD...

The wind blew us off that spot and the old man was at it again. Go over there (pointing) and line up the forked stump with that limb worn slick by the squirrels, then it was line up the boat dock door with the rock and the tall green tree, and then it was find the big rock where the creek flows off the bank in 26 FOW. This went on all day and each of his GPS cords was verified with my HB 898 and I have to say that his OLD SCHOOL GPS was impressive. It was a day of interrupted conversation; I don't think we ever ended a story due to someone catching a fish of one species or another. We ended up with a solid limit and both of us caught some TOADS, 2 each over 2 pounds, we tossed back all of them, that were under 11 inches. Grin! I hope the fall bites gets better!!!!!!!!

While driving home and reflecting back on the blessed day, I just had.

I wondered.

What if that old man didn't step, into my boat today?

Makes you wonder who he really was.

Enough said!

Toads!

Wonderful story. Being kind sure can go a long way. Ive had a similar experience with an older gentlemen sitting at the dock before. What a blessing it is to meet someone unrelated to you that is willing to share that much knowledge. Wtg!

Now that's what it's all about. H&F, you really do need to get your glasses changed, if you can read that scale, you have pretty long arms!
So, what lake did this happen on? Lake X?

OUTSTANDING!! That simple act of sharing benefited both of you. The old gentleman was able to get out in a boat and check some old spots and realize "I still got it!" and you were able to "mark" some new waypoints for future reference and you both got to spend a day, as another poster puts it, "ketchin & yakin". I often think, "what if my hi-tech electronics failed one day on the water". Well, I'd be sunk! I kinda think his way is the most reliable, at least, as long as you have your mind and the means to get out to them, you'll always have spots to fish.

BTW, NICE fish Kirk!

You can really lucky in to some piles that way. Just be on the lookout for things that "line up".
I lined up a straight clearing in the trees one time with a cell phone tower and found a pile.

A few months later, was fishing with a guy that I'd never fished with before and he showed me one of his piles. It was the same one. Funny thing was, he "lined" it up with a house a point and something else. Had nothing to do with the tree clearing and cell tower.

Nice job, H&F. Your kindness will be repaid again, no doubt. Random acts of kindness go a long way. The old man might have been an axe murderer, but maybe he was Santa Claus instead. You picked right. Santa might bring you a new antenna for your 898.

The old man that stepped in my boat, was of a higher power. What a great experience and I will continue to look for him on that dock.

Bob, you should know. I fished in God's Country.

Sounds like a good trip. Lots of good fish, the old man probably didn't even tell you all his secret spots
