It ran up against a V6 F-150 and a Nissan cargo van. Does this ranking really mean anything at all other than Motor Trend does too many rankings? If there are only 3 vehicles that qualify for "truck of the year", you've some some screwed up criteria.

I drove a 2002 Dodge with the V6 for 2 years. Worst truck I've ever had in my life. Towing an empty 12' enclosed trailer, it was pegged at 4k RPM going down I-20 at 65 mph. So you can imagine how bad it was when I put a few hundred pounds worth of stuff in the trailer. That V6 won't even pull the weight of a regular cab truck around, much less anything behind it. I had the Chevy 4.3L V6 in two separate trucks before that, and it could pull a mid-size boat without even knowing it was back there.

Not to mention, the Dodge had a cracked dash, broken window motor, non-working radio, and light problems and it was only 4 years old when I sold it. Motor Trend is going to lose a lot of credibility with rankings like this.

I'm not a Dodge guy or fan, but that Pentastar 3.6L V6 is leaps and bound better than their old one with 305 HP and 269 ft-lbs. My wife's car has the same engine and it makes tons of power for a V6. Add that with a 8 speed tranny in the 2013 Ram and you are supposed to get 25 MPG, which would work for probably 80% of the people who have trucks just to have one and roll to Home Depot on Saturdays.

I like cargo vans. I wish you happiness. I am sorry to of made you so upset about a cargo van, 6 cylinder, Ram, and a Ford. Just wanted to let everyone know that Ram trucks are waaaaay better than a cargo van, thanks.

I'll second this! The 3.6l Pentastar is a great V6.

Yeo. We have a 2011 Chrysler 200 Limited Hard Top Convertible. That car will straight get up and go. I've surprised a few cars around the area when I get ready to get up and move.

I have listened to Jerry Reynalds on the radio rip Motor Trend.
He really started on them a couple of years ago when they had really gotten down on Honda about the Civic. They didn't like it. He had reviewed it and he had liked the car. It went on to have record sales that year so the public liked the car also.
I kind of look at Motor Trend and Consumer Reports like movie or music critics. They think they are experts but are often out of touch with reality.

I started a post yesterday asking about opinions on the Ecoboost
and you might be surprised by the responses.
You can find it here:

Ford F-150 w/Ecoboost V-6

And it should be pretty close to this post. From the responses I'm going to get the Ecoboost.
And, if speed is what you want, then why even consider a V6? As long as it will pull my boat around 70 down the interstate, that's all I need besides, of course, pulling it up and down ramps, hills etc. The hp and torque ratings are better at lower rpm than the big V8 which I now have. If you want to impress someone, you are in a different market than I am...been there and done that. At the cost of trucks these days, I want something I know will last and can be serviced in my garage and I've got right at 200,000 on my current Ford and not had a single problem with it, nothing, amazing to me.
just my 2 cents......

Motor trend is a joke anymore. The _____ of the year trophy is nothing more than a dog and pony show.

yeah... the auto mag award winners are typically the manufacturer that has purchased the most advertising spots. Can't remeber which mag it was, but one of them took several diesel trucks and put them in a completely unrealistic "test"... Not sure which is more idiotic, the ones that wrote the artice, or the ones who read and believed it to be valuable information!
