I am in the market for a new jig pole for jig fishing for crappie from a boat. What brand and length do you all use most. Also, do most of you use ultra light spinning reels or small casting reels like Mr. Crappie etc. and what size line do you use most.
Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Pro angler or Wally 6.5-7ft rod with 6lb mr crappie hi-viz line. Others work fine too but I carry both of these on my boat and they don't break the bank.

Pro Angler 8' w/ Gander Mtn. Guide Series spinning reel w/ Sufix Seige Neon Tangerine. 1 @ 6# for 32oz jigs & 1 @ 8# for 1/8oz jigs. I also have a 10' Pro Angler with a baitcaster & Sufix Seige Neon Tangerine in 10# for fishing tandem jigs under bridges. Great rigs all around IMHO.

Do you think the 8' is a better all around jig rod over the 10' and why do you think so.

I like the 10' for more time during the season and it IS my go to during the spawn. It give a little more reach iwhen yu need it. I use bait caster reels, but only to store the line. I verticle fish like I fly fish and hold the line in my hand. That's why I like to 10' better. Less stripping the line in to swing the slab into the boat....

depends on where your jigging longer poles harder under a bridge and waves in the brush with a boat shorter rod in tight areas and under bridges with low clearance. so basically i have 6ft,7ft and 9ft for my jigging

I use a 9 footer when fishing for spawners during the spring. The extra reach is crucial. Reggie

The 8ft is better all around jig rod. If the lakes ever get full again and stay that way, you'll need a shorter pole under some of the bridges if you fish there. Otherwise, that 8ft is hard to beat. The 10ft is real good in the spring to reach out and not spook the fish when they're shallow. The 8ft is lighter and you can fish it all day without fatigue.
