Im currently verticle jig fishing out of a boat with an 8' bnm. After some talks with Pat and Dennis... I want to try an 8footer with a cork handle and stiffer tip. I was told that the tika rod was great for what I was looking for, but is no longer available. My question is... what other rod options should I check out with stiff rod tip and cork handle?

Pro Angler is an excellent rod for a reasonable price. ProAnglerTackle.com

I have four or five of them and they work great!

This.

You will enjoy a 10 footer better, I believe.

I love my B & M Jigging Poles. I have a 8'er and 2 - 10'ers. I have a Pro-Angler, and it is a nice pole also, but I feel the Pro-Angler is just a little bit heavier.

Both are nice Rods.

I have 2 8' PA rods with cork grips and they are absolutely the finest rod for the $ I've ever fished. Backbone enough to swing a 2#+ crappie into the boat (though I prefer to use a net) and a sensitive tip for feeling those light bites (especially common this time of year). I also have a 10' PA with foam grip and it's a good one too, just a bit heavy for all day jiggin, and also 2, 9 1/2' Quantum XtraLight Todd Huckabee sig. rods. They're fine rods too but IMHO, not quite as stout as the 8' PA., and $20 more expensive.

I have three 8 foot PA rods and two of the 10 footers. I can't make up my mind which I like best. I do seem to get in my own way with a 10 footer around timber though. Get one of each.

Fortunately I was able to stock up on TICAs before they quit miking them. TICAs have a very sensitive tip, and a real stiff backbone that I really like.

The best jig pole i have found is the 9ft ESP series at Cabelas, it has a cork handle at amplifies the bite. With 4# test a fish can swim past your jig and you feel it. JMO Russell

If you want a stiffer action go with Pro-Angler. If you don't like it I'll buy it from you.

Pro Angler or Bass Pro. I have several that I modified and they are great. I cut about 7"-8" off the tip and put a new tip on.

In my opinion, the stiffer tip is more sensitive and the backbone is incredable. Don't be afraid, just do it.

To test the action before cutting just fail to thread the line thru the top two guides and pull on the line like a fish would. Or try one of mine. If I can help let me know.

I have some of the Tica's and they are really good rods, a bit long in the handle to suit me so I cut 4" off the butt, now they are perfect except they are a pain to haul around in my little Honda.

As you can see, I'm not shy about modifying things.

B&M Bucks Ultimate at 10' is a really good one. I have 3 or 4 and never had any trouble with them at all.
I have not tried the Pro Angler since they added the cork handles and my only one is a bit old so maybe they have new ones now.

I have several others that don't have as stiff of a tip and there is a big difference in the Buck's Ultimate!

Just pick up a pro angler 8ft rod from Ed this morning and went fishing at Lellea.

Had to say this is a very nice rod for the price. Pretty light, sensitive tip and strong back bone.

Thanks guys... A good fishing buddy of mine is also not shy about modifying rods.. I'm still a little scary when it comes to modifying but the pro angler is winning my attention. Might have to make a trip to cabelas to look at the ESP also. Wonder where I can get my hands on one of those bucks ultimate?
