Not sure if this works.
Give a man a fish; you have fed him for today. Teach a man to fish, and he will sit in the boat and drink beer all day.

My Major in College is Wild Life and Fisheries; i'm pretty sure she had eggs in her and the coloring in the tail was a trait spawning fish have. I agree it was the wrong time but i dont know what to make of it honestly.

Typically the males will have a bloody tail because they fan the beds to make them clean , the female is usually only on the bed for a few hrs. More than likely its from feeding shallow and chasing shad up to the bank , that does happen in fall as the females are feeding up . You will see this in muddy lakes allot also explains her pale color . Ill tell ya this that fish is going to look like it swallowed a balloon by march !!!!!!! Lol. Great catch , and welcome to the forum .

I would have thought anything close to that size would have been eaten by now out of that pond. I agree that it is fat from eating and not spawning.

I sent a piece of its tail fin in to the lab to see if it was in spawn or not ill let you all know the results in a week or two. (don't worry the fish was a catch and release) It can live on and produce other fatties.

Ya at first i though it was a big cat or a carp, then it exploded out of the water. Do you all eat the bass out here cause i was asked by more then a few if they could have it. Turn them down. Im a catch and release nut for Large mouth.
