Hi my name is Nathan,
Anybody do any catfishing in Canyon lake texas? If so could you help me out some? Where to fish and when? What to use and how to use it? I tried over at potters creek with dead perch and live perch but no luck, plus I keep getting caught on rocks or logs under the water and lose my rigs. Maybe some ones got a spot and secrets their okay with sharing? Also if anybody is ever so kind to let us go with them if you have a boat that would just be amazing(Will bring our own gear and tackle)(Maybe you could tell us what kinda tackle or bait to bring!) We have a boat just not a fishing boat. Live over in rocky creek ranch.

PM sent

I'm a humble fisherman in the service of our Lord.
Started fishin at 5 years old and can't stop.
I've owned a boat every day from age 16.
I fish for every type of fish in every different way.

Are you fishing in a boat or on the bank? If from the bank I do not know if a boat I can help you.

Why PMs? Isn't the purpose of a forum to share information? A month from now someone searches this subject and only finds this thread that says "PM sent"....
Just post the info if you want to help or not, if not.
I have not fished Canyon a lot, but when I did I had most of my luck fishing in the area between crane's mill fishing peir into the lake to potter's creek park area. Also caught some drifting off the point of canyon park. It can be a tough lake to fish.

Last time i did that whole place was loaded with beer cans and whole other [censored] had to clean twice myself . I don't mind giving it away on PM's whoever asks but kinda avoid getting places trashed where we love to fish .

Ive practically given up on canyon lake. I couldnt buy a bite from the bank there if i were bill gates. id say ive spent over 100+ hours fishing all around there and have only caught a single bass on accident while going for cats. I mainly fish the lower guad because even though the fishing isnt the best, at least i know they are there. Ive been scuba diving at canyon a couple times and didnt see any fish other than 2 tiny bluegill, which is the only time ive never seen any gamefish in a lake while scuba diving.

I went snorkeling near the dam and saw some decent fish. A couple 3lb cats, a school of about 10 nice smallies and some decent blue gill. But I can't catch much there either. I think its one of those lakes that once you got it figured out you do pretty good there. All the fish are in a few places and very much creatures of habit.

We do real well fishing up in the river channel across from the crappie dock. We fish there in the spring from say around March to May. The biggest challenge we face is getting bait. We try to catch our own bait because all of the bait shops either dont have perch or they think the things are made out of gold because they charge so much for them. Anyway, if you can get big live perch and fish in that area at that time you will do good. We get Blues to 20 lbs and Yellows to 40 lbs with the average being in the 10 15 lb range. In the spring, there is a place we call the well I think its an underwater natural spring. Its just off the point from Mystic Shores. If its running you can load up the boat with white bass in about an hour. You know its running if there is a muddy slick on the water. If its not running you might as well go home.
Do not try to go up there around Easter. Thats when the lake becomes a madhouse. People are trying to camp in every place that they can. After that it continues to get worse until after Labor Day. Then all the visitors go home and we get the lake back.
It is a very hard lake to fish but once you figure it out its not that bad. The nice thing about it is that most people think its too hard to fish so this time of the year you get it pretty much to yourself until the rubber hatch AKA Tubers come back in the spring.

Wish for what you want. Pray for what you need

Ive bank fished turkey cove which has done prettybwell for me. I use fresh bluegill or shad and usually end up with some nice blues or flatties even caught the occasional striper. You will lose alot of tackle do to the submerged treeline.

i have had good luck from the mouth of the river up as well. if you are on the bank i would try around tom's creek. you can have luck in less than 6 ft.
canyon is very hit and miss though. i have had some of my most memorable catfishing moments up the river, but more often than not i get skunked.
as far as bait, it is hard to catch at the lake. we catch shad and perch at lake dunlap the day before we make a big trip. i know others will dissagree but chicken liver is my go to bait at canyon. for bigger fish a live perch on a carolina rig is money.
good luck, canyon will make you take up golf!
