I was able to head up to Colorado last weekend to visit a few friends and mix in a bit of fishing. Thought I would share a few pics.

On Friday, we drove up to Boulder to have breakfast on the way to the park. I found this at a place called the Buff, near campus. It was even better than it looks.

We stopped at Rocky Mountain Anglers fly shop to get a few flies and some advise. The guy there was quite helpful and friendly. Pointed us in the direction of a trail along a little creek in RMNP. 45 minutes outside of Boulder we found this beauty:

We hiked up about 3 miles, and fished pockets here and there. Brookies that love dry flies cooperated nicely on just about any decent pool:

RMNP is beautiful, and I will need to go back. We really only saw a small corner of what the park has to offer. The elevation kicked me in the pants, so we headed back to Denver and crashed, looking forward to the guide trip the next day.

Saturday we woke up and drove back into the mountains, except this time headed southwest. Met up with our fantastic guide at ArkAnglers. He took us to a gorgeous stretch of river and got me working a big foamy dry fly. The day started strong and kept going. Caught a bunch of fish, in a gorgeous part of the world. Here's a little sampling.

Looks like they have more water there than in Southwestern Colorado. A friend sent me this image from the Conejos yesterday though -

I must say the Conejos is my favorite Colorado destination so far.

Great shots... Going to miss the conejos trip this year...

Hooking a fish is like playing string with a cat. The exact size, shape, color of string matters less than how you wiggle it- and little cats are easier to fool than big ones. John Gierach

It's more than the catfish would do.

I just returned from a week of fishing in SW Colorado, west of Colorado Springs. Mostly in Eleven Mile Canyon and on the South Platt River, fishing areas up to 10,000 feet elevation. Gorgeous country! Caught plenty of trout, most brown and brookies, looking forward to going back one day. Would love to visit and fish RMNP on a long trip.

Thanks guys, I appreciate the comments. The Arkansas did have a bit more water the day we fished it due to some rain. Much of the state is suffering from the lack of snow last winter.

RMNP is impressive, highly recommend it. We spent an entire day and barely covered one tiny corner of the place. I keep looking at the map I brought home and dreaming of a backpacking trip to the backcountry high elevation lakes and streams.....

Probably shouldn't have the map up in my cube (sigh)

Beautiful pictures. Its always amazing how little water it takes to have trout in it, especially brookies.
