I normally buy my batteries at Academy and they hold up for a couple of years. The academy in mesquite carry this new brand Exide marine deep cycle. They sell for 89 bucks. I'm usually a believer in "you get what you pay for" and was worried about getting some new TM batteries. Has anyone tried this battery?

I bought some excide from academy and they went out after 8 months. Called excide and they said since I did not buy them from excide they would not take them back. Went to academy and told them what happened and they took them back.
Went to Trojan and love them

Good battery numbers and not just guesses depends on your situation...we don't know if you are trolling it on a kayak or a pontoon.

what TM lb thrust and TM model and whether you use a speed TM prop or weed TM prop and number of TM batteries, size/type of your boat, if it is fiberglass or aluminum, do you run trolling motor only a little over 3 hours in a fishing day fishing slow or do you fish sun-up to sun-down often in winds and weeds trolling fast almost constantly. And will you be monitoring your batteries voltages during the day and be willing to stop when they reach 50% discharged.

Can calculate the battery needed RC minutes that you will really need to buy ... if given enough info.

I run the trolling motor probably 6-8 hrs. It's a 24 volt 70 lb on a 19.5 ' stratos bass boat.

Sounds like typical bass fishing patterns in a typical average to smaller sized TX tournament quality bass boat on sometimes windy Texas full tournament days. Watches batteries and wants full battey life so sizes batteries to never discharge them more than 50% before recharging:

If your 24V TM is a modern digital type 70lb, and is rated at pulling 40amps on high, you will likely most often run it about mid high trolling speed, so you may average using 30 amps when it is ON.

If you are trolling/pausing and fishing/trolling a moment and also sometimes are tying on lures, hopefully landing fish to two during the day, you may actually be on the TM power only an average of 20% or 12 sec/min during an an 8 hour day.

Two batteries each with an RC of 210 minutes used on a TM drawing 30amps at 24V being used 12 seconds of each minute would reach 50% discharge and need recharging after 7 hours, 15 min.

25amps RC/30amps =.833
0.833 X 210minutes X 50%discharge limit =87 min
87 min X 60second/12seconds =435minutes
435min = 7 hours 15 minutes.

Consider two deep cycle marine batteries each with a Reserve Capacity (RC) of about 210 minutes.....typical size 29M. Ignore the CCA and MCA ratings.

Typical Texas tournament style bass anglers like you trolling in 18 and 19 foot bass boats tend to require bigger deep cycle batteries than your friends in larger 20, 21 and 22 foot boats.

They tend to run their bigger TMs on 36 volts, 3 batteries, while you (and I) run on 24 volt, 2 battery setups.

Which batteries anglers with 21 and 22 ft boats tend to use and often recommend to a boater with a 24 volt boat is not very applicable.

Those of us with our smaller 24 V boats tend to need the biggest RC spec-ed batteries available and we will still tend to work them much harder and have to replace them more often than the bigger boats.
