Roger Clemens Signs with Skeeters

Seven Time Cy Young award winner joins the Skeeters;

Press Conference Scheduled for 11:00AM on Tuesday, August 21 at Constellation Field

Sugar Land, TX – Eleven time All Star and seven time Cy Young Award Winner Roger Clemens is scheduled to join the Sugar Land Skeeters of the Atlantic League. Clemens will be in uniform on Friday August 24, and will make his first start for the Skeeters this Saturday, August 25, at Constellation Field.

“Roger came to work out for us today, and we were very impressed,” said Tal Smith, special advisor for the Sugar Land Skeeters.

“He had great command of all his pitches and we couldn’t be more excited about this signing.”

Clemens joins the Atlantic League’s Sugar Land Skeeters pitching rotation that already features former major leaguers Scott Kazmir, Tim Redding and Jason Lane.

“Any time you can add a player of Roger’s caliber is extremely exciting,” said Skeeters President Matt O’Brien.

“Our inaugural season has been extremely memorable, and this is just going to add to it.”

Clemens will be available to answer questions from media at Constellation Field at 11:00am on Tuesday, August 21. The press conference will take place in the upper level of the stadium – the Insperity Club.

Limited tickets are still available for Saturdays game and all of the remaining games for the 2012 season. Tickets can be purchased online at sugarlandskeeters.com, by phone at 281-240-4487, or in person at the Sugar Land Skeeters Box Office.

About the Sugar Land Skeeters: The Sugar Land Skeeters, led by Manager and former Major League All-Star Gary Gaetti, play in the $37 million Constellation Field, located at the intersection of State Highway 6 and U.S. Highway 90A in Sugar Land – only 20 minutes from downtown Houston.
The Skeeters play 140 regular season games (70 home, 70 away) in the Atlantic League, considered the highest level of Minor League Baseball. Atlantic League players are “Major League ready” and in the last fifteen years over 600 players have graduated from Atlantic League clubs to Major League organizations, making the League a preferred route for experienced players to be scouted by Major League Baseball.

DUE TO THE OVERWHELMING DEMAND, THE SUGAR LAND SKEETERS ARE ADVISING ALL FANS WITH TICKETS IN WILL CALL FOR THE GAME ON SATURDAY AUGUST 25 TO PICK UP THEIR TICKETS AT THE STADIUM DURING NORMAL BUSINESS HOURS OF 9:30am - 5:30pm BEFORE SATURDAY.

Yep, Roger had a 45 min workout, his fastball top out at 87mph. I didn't realize he is 50 yrs old.
