I have a nice home made 40 gal bait tank I made out of a 55 gal drum. After looking at countless ideals for a pump, filter, and aerator system on the internet this is what I came up with. What do you guys think? I hope to build this, this weekend and try it out soon.

So I built the filter/pump today and tested it out. It works like a champ! Pump build pics below. Parts prior to assembly. Housing assembled. A look down the pipe.

They're junk, standard pump water in and overflow out. I wasn't impressed and knew I'd have to plumb it up. But that's off topic Does your tank work? And how's it fit in the boat?

In and out are how my bait and livewell tanks are plumbed also.
The Bait tank works great! I will fill the bottom of it with active carbon pellets. On top of that I will put a sponge. Last I will put a coarse filter to catch debree and scales.
I can put the Bait tank in the back of the boat or in front of the console. It is a white tank that I painted the inside with some Krylon blue paint. So I will have to run some water through it for a good while to clean out the chems. Should work great for shad and saltwater bait (mullet and croaker).

I finished up the bait tank and here is a small video. http://youtu.be/eWt3VTIRPZg?hd=1Do you guys think that is enough movement in the water?

May i suggest an improvment to your design. I would put a lip around the inside of your lid. Without it water will be splashing out everywhere. Been there done that I made several of these probably 5 years back.
