The State of Texas fined Marine Quest Hidden Cove on the east side of the lake for failing "to comply with discharge limits and failed to include some data in its monthly discharge report" from August and November 2011, and not submitting its annual sludge report.
Does that mean marinas on Lewisville Lake discharge "sludge" directly into the lake?

it means they operate some type of waste water treatment facility
and the sludge report is a part of the requirements of operating that facility. Sludge has to be hauled off and disposed of in a landfill licensed for sludge by a licensed sludge hauler
state only allows treated waste water to be discharged into a lake

What happened if they discharged the sludge in to the lake without anyone's knowledge? How do we know that never happened? Making me worry now. My two cents

If its within 100 miles of D/FW i wouldnt eat the fish. And even then you still have to question it.....

It is very difficult to move sludge, takes a vacuum truck if it is in the "liquid" state
Sludge has to be dried to move, has to pass the "paint" test which measures dryness
If they had discharged dry sludge into the lake, it would be very obvious, smelly stuff floating every where for days
Haulers with a very expensive truck and a license... Would be a huge risk in a pretty profitable business.
Dealt with tceq issues for 20 years working for a couple of cities...

Hidden Cove Park has gone steadily downhill since Marine Quest took it over. When it was Lewisville Lake State Park, it was a great facility. I took a drive through there a few weeks ago and it was a mess. The marina is ok, but it has remained unfinished forever and the rest of the park continues to go downhill. There are quiet a few folks that live there in their travel trailers full time now judging by the amount of cr@p they have spread out everywhere. Some even had built decks. That wasn't allowed in the past. Those used to be really nice RV spots. Not sure I would stay down there now. Wouldn't want to interrupt anyone while they're "cooking."

You can go to TECQ web site they are currently in process of make all MOR available to the public. You will be able to see what the marina reported. Matter of public record.

I would be more concerned about the hundreds of large boats with onboard heads. A lot of those guys don't like to pay to have their head emptied. It is much cheaper to dump their sewage holding tanks into the lake.
You didn't think that 8 inches of mush on the bottom of Lewisville was mud, did you?

Those giant boats are more of an errosion threat than they are a "sludge threat". Still, I know the water authorities that control Eagle Mountain take that stuff seriously and hand out more than a "slap on the wrist". I don't know what kind of fine it woukd bring on Lewisville. Let's hope these sludge dumpers got more of a fine than the "tree cutters" got.
