I have a number of fly rod tubes piled in the corner of my man cave and would like to get them better organized. In the past, I could by a rod tube rack from Dan Bailey's made out of oak, that looked something like the one pictured at:

stripersonline.com as 142154af_vbattach395670.jpg

I called Dan Bailey's recently and they said they no longer carry those racks because their vendor no longer makes them.

What I need is a local craftsman (DFW area) who could make similar racks for me. I would need four of the racks like the one pictured in the link above, or two or three like this one:

http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-vLqI6W46TaA/Tk_bMGVkpYI/AAAAAAAAAS8/ZjvudMA4XRQ/s1600/100_6145.JPG

If you are interested, send me a PM and we can talk specifics.

Thanks!

I can make you something like that without any issues. The ones in the second link that is. First link didn't come thru on my phone. Cost of materials/transportation and a good word is all I ask. The only problem is I am in the Killeen/ FT Hood area. If you don't find anyone local to your area, just let me know what type of wood you want them made out of and we can go from there.

Here's the first one:

Mick, this looks like a good idea, although, it would make it easier for the wife to know how many rods you have...

The second one you posted does not look very complicated to make - it looks like some 2x4's, couple pieces of plywood, some trim, some screws and a hole saw. I might be able to make myself something like that. noidea

Mick,
You might check with Barlows. They were selling off all of their wooden rod racks last time I was there for $45 each.

Uh oh, Mick. With a little math... hmmm 18, 36, 50+. So there's about half of the total, right? lol

Rex - I agree... The rod holder in the 2nd link doesn't look complicated or expensive at all. I am a rookie woodworker but have all the tools to make something like this happen.

If one or more of you more experienced woodworker/fly anglers want to get together one day and fab some of these up as a group effort I'm interested- that actually sounds like it would be fun.

Thanks, Rex and Jerry.

Preast, stifle yourself....

Yes, the first time I bought rod tube racks, my wife did the math thing. Then I started looking for paint the same color as the walls in my man cave. I figured I could paint all the rod tubes that color and they'd blend in with the wall.

Get a drill and a hole saw and pick up a few used pallets. Secure two together and cut however many holes you need. My personal opinion is that I've never liked the look of those style rod holders. Or buy or create rod tube holders that look like gun racks. The truck window style.

I dont have a lot of floor space in my "man cave" so here is what I did. Its easy, quick, and looks good. You can even put it in the closet out of the way, but I like mine on display!!!

I like it ... kind of like a ... worship altar. Candles anyone? Mick, are you interested in something no one else has - bamboo tubes for your bamboo rods?

Here is a link to some of the stuff I play with when I'm not working or fishing.

My rod rack that I just finished is in there as well.

Wooden spools work well for this also.
