Oh wow.... where to even start. The girl im dating decided to invite me to lake texoma and go striper fishing with her family and hang out on the lake all weekend. Never been striper fishing but decided sure lets do it. I grabbed my power tackle/Curado combo and headed north with her. Did not know what to expect.

We get up at 4 in the morning and head off to catch "bait." Wait catch what?? Yes, Live bait. This involved casting nets and we only got a couple a throw. ALso caught a few catfish drum and other mixed species. Before sunrise I was soaking wet and smelled like fish from head to toe..... And this was just the start.

Go to a mainlake point and I brought the biggest spook I had in my tackle box. First cast boom I catch about a 7 pounder. In respect to the fish this thing faught harder then anything I have ever hooked into. Next cast caught a 5 pounder. BOth of these fish I swung but apparently you are suppose to use a net when "meat fishing."

Then the hilarious part starts.... litterally 200 boats come within a 100 yards of us and all hell breaks loose. These people have zero etiqutte and respect for other boaters was my intial thought. I then figured out that this is just the culture of catching stripers on lake Texoma. This is the biggest difference between bass and striper fishing. Fishing next to someone is ok and a common practice.

We continued the rest of the day chasing schools with the other 200 boats and ended up with 22 fish. The only big fish were the few we caught right at sunrise. Overall I would say it was an interesting enjoyable first time experience.

Get to the boat ramp to load the boat. This is a single lane boat ramp. I back up the truck until the boater tells me to stop. We have absolute hell getting this ocean boat on the trailer and have now been taking up the ramp for 15 minutes. I have now become that guy that all the TFF boat ramp posts are about....

Finnally get the boat on the trailer and I pull up. The guy in the front of the boat tells me to pull up a little bit more up to the road so I do. Granted this boat is really tall I cant see a thing from the seat of my truck just the sides of the boat. So doing what he asked I pulled up about another 30 yards when I here BOOOOOM CRASH and a few cuss words. The guy apparently was trying to get off the boat when I was told to pull up for the second time. I thought I had killed the guy. He is laying face down on the concrete in the middle of the boat ramp... The girl Im dating is asking if we should call 911. Her father that told me to pull up a little more doesnt know what to think. This guy comes to life and starts yelling at me to the top of his lungs telling me I broke his back F this GD that and by this point I am done. I dont know what to think. The bad part is his boat is hooked up to my tahoe. SO my escape route is blocked. He ends up being ok but doesnt say 2 words to me the rest of the trip. He was pretty bruised and cut up from his 5 feet fall but sometimes some things happen.

That was my striper experience and I know it was a very long read but I thought some of you might appreciate my weekend trip.

The catching sounds like fun! The rest sounds like a nightmare. Good story Barrett!

When I first clicked on this thread, I was hoping it was going to be about your first stripper experience...but this post turned out to be better than any stripper story you could have told! (on here anyway!)

Crazy story!

Good eating though!

hahhahahaha,

I feel ya,

I dated a girl for many years a good while back whose dad was a big time cat fisherman. I was in some "episodes" like that with him and his overnight jugging buddies a few times.

Who was the guy with the boat? One of her dad's friends?

There's no way to avoid the other boats, its the same way on Tawakoni.

That is one crazy story.

I do the striper/hybrid thing as well as LMB. You're right about the culture being different. Certain etiquette is okay with one group and not with another.

Better luck next time.

pretty sure it was the guide that he dumped on the ground and the future FIL was the one that told him to pull up
