What size wire to extend power cable for humminbird 596c HD DI

I receieved the filter cable from HB cust service, but its only 6ft long.
The graph is located on the front deck, batteries are in the back of an 18 foot boat.
want to make sure this is done right, so what kind of wire and what gauge.

14 or larger for that distance.

thanks, any particular wire? Stranded, shielded etc... I got lots of CAT5

Any is OK. I used marine grade tinned wire in 12 guage.

The size needed to carry 3 amps for the total length of the wire run,positive and ground.

12-14 Gauge is what I recommend. 14-16 will do it but little larger gauge doesn't hurt as it provides additional capacity as resistance builds in the wire over time.
