A friend and I fished the Brazos near Navasota over the weekend. Targeted flathead and alligator gar. Managed one flathead, and two needlenose. Unfortunately, no alligator gar. Can't seem to catch one of those. Brazos is a great river, lot's of wildlife and remote, I highly recommend a visit. Not the best pic but there's the bald eagle. Huge, huge bird. We could see it sitting on the branch sunning his wings from way down river. Pic details Our camping location, just south of Navasota. The lone flathead The needlenose

No gar in that area. Fished out. Nah when y'all going back? Bring Gasper gou or carp for bait. Hand size chunks. Find a deep hole and wait.

There is a bald eagle that lives on lake waco and its just a great feeling to see it when you're out fishing. It's just a good reminder of our freedom as well as the great wildlife we are fortune enough to experience.

Thanks guys.
It was an awesome time. We saw the eagle midway between the mapped location in the photo and where 105 crosses the Brazos. Wonder if he eats gar.
We were using live perch for bait. Sometimes on the bottom but mostly under a float, about five feet down. We'd find a slow moving area and let our lines sit. We got a bunch of bites. The float would just start cruising across the river, but didn't have much luck hooking up.
Not sure when the next trip is, but I'll be back.

You figure out how to make a big flat head bite with the sun out and you can win the tournaments. Have to put a perch on their noses to bite it. The strike distance is less than a foot. Might catch early am but just a gamble. You try any bass fishing? The kayak guy fishes down there somewhere. Think up river from you. Caught some small mouth. That would be neat. How was putting in under 105? I may go Friday morning.

We did try for bass a little with arties. The perch were small enough that a bass could have taken one no problem. Didn't get any though. Sometime you get lucky on the flatheads Putting in at 105 was.....not easy. Here's a couple pics from that ordeal. A very nice person happened to be fishing under the bridge when we took out and helped us haul the boat up. 105 launch point

Yup that's how it is. Go light. Take everything out of boat then reload it. A pain. If I had the money I'd buy land down there and make a park. Washington on the Brazos is there but no ramp. Guess if it were easy everybody would fish it and it wouldn't be any good either.
