Looks like a project well worth a little time invested. Curious how big an umbrella y'all are using. I was just cruising through Amazon & found a 9' diameter crank & tilt for $25. Beam is about 91" on our Stratos so it seems like it would cover pretty well @ +17"

9' Patio Umbrella from Academy. My Stratos has an 84" beam and with the tilt pole & pvc brace that rotates about 300 degrees around my chair, I can be in the shade "no matter what"!

Think mine are 9' also. Bought them at ACE hardware in Mabank for around $25 each. I haven't used mine this year, yet.

Thanks for the replies, 9' it is. Seems to be a pretty common size for patio/market umbrellas. I'm sure my better half would enjoy a little shade this summer. The big broiler in the sky get's her plenty uncomfortable & dang near sick!

yes sir, my better half cant take too much sun, gets her heat strokey pretty quick. this worked well, even with the winds we had, and will cover just about any angle. the great thing is, it didn't get in the way of fishing, that was my concern

The wind and getting in the way were 2 things that concerned me the most. Sounds like it should be a win/win for us here, TB. Gonna see about shopping for the materials this weekend & see if I can't get her back out on the water on a regular basis. Heck, I may throw one up front for them blistering July & August days! Thanks guys, I'll get some pics posted when I get it finished.

Well my better half mentioned putting a 'brella on the boat so they don't burn when they go with me. smile

So it looks like I will be putting together a little shade soon. laugh
