Everyone has their favorite after using a few. I have probably had one of every brand. My favorite is the one that fits my hand the best. I have small hands and the design of knives makes some of them impossible to hold onto. That being said, I like Mr. Twister brand the best for fit and how long it lasts. My last knife I bought the Saltwater version and I think I have fileted more Crappie with it than the other version.

Rapala makes a fantastic knife too but the power seems to slow down while using it.

American Angler makes a great knife for power and blades and length of life, getting harder to find though. I love the Shark Blades.

All in all, opinions of a few of my friends and family included... best knife is the one(s) that have a good feel in your hand.

Black and Decker at WalMart $13. I've tried them all and for the money you can't beat this knife.

I'm sure you will get quite a few on here saying to just get a Black and Decker from Walmart (they're about $12.00) and they will say that for as cheap as they are, if you burn one up just get another, they're only $12.00...and that's ALL THERE WORTH! I had to replace mine Sunday, went with the B&D...noticed first that the blades had a little play once seated in the motor...1st 3 fish went fine and then the blades began mutilating the meat...they were so serrerated and flimsy...that the flesh was getting between them and seperating the blades, making two cuts into the fillets as they worked down...the only thing good about the knife was the motor speed and the way it felt in my hand...I cleaned the blades...same thing happend...some will say that you may have to go through a few (exchanging them) until you get a good one...but to me...having to go the store 2-3 times until I find the right 12 dollar knife...isn't worth it... soap

For the money...I would go with a Mr. Twister...decent motor speed...decent blades...won't break the bank...that's what I would have picked up but it was Easter Sunday and Academy was closed so I had to go back to Wally World and rather than take a chance on a little more expensive Hamilton Beach...I found that they had their Rappala Delux Kit (extra blades, 12 volt conversion attachment, etc) on clearance for $48...so I went with it...good blades, felt great in hand...did 20 fish, never got warm...the only thing I wish was better would be the speed and torque...but the blades are so good...just let 'em work and all was good...anyways....sorry the rant...but that's my 2cents

Oh and P.S. I've heard that American Angler makes a really good one..but they're a little expensive and harder to find...I think you have to order them online nowadays...

I have had just about all of them and hate to say it but the black and decker was my favorite. Rapala seems like it doesnt have enough motor speed and doesnt cut fast. the only problem i have with the B and D is i usually wear out the pieces that hold in the blades and the come out when using! I just liked the way the blades were flimsy and could curve them to cut close to the bone. thanks for all the suggestions!

No matter which one you choose, spray the blades with PAM. leanin post taught me this and it works. I have a buddy fishin farmer that has been using the same Black and Decker 3 years. I buy them 2 at a time and they last a lot longer that way.

That is what I use as well. Where are you getting your replacement blades Brian? I can't find them @ Academy or Walmart anymore. Seems to be getting harder to find replacement blades.

Keep on fishing.
