Lake Lewisville Catfish Guide Report - 4/13/12

Brian and Tony came all the way down from Bentonville, Arkansas to tempt fate on a Friday the 13th catfishing trip. Turns out luck was on their side for the most part. Winds shifted just a bit from the day before and the fished were were on 24 hours earlier left the building. It didn't take us long to find them and the guys enjoyed a steady bite throughout the day. Tony had the hot seat and landed a nice hybrid and a couple of trophy blues. He set his new personal best with a fiesty blue that tipped the scales at 21 lbs. Brian completed the catfish trifecta with his first ever rod and reel flathead.

They finished up their full-day guided catfishing trip with a 50 fish limit of blues and a couple of deep-hooked channel cats. They also released close to 20 other catfish that were a bit on the small side (less than 15 inches or so) and a couple of gar. Final count was well over 350 lbs of fish caught in just under 8 hours on the lake. Still have some dates open for May, but they are filling in FAST. Folks don't want to miss out on some AMAZING catfishing action right here in the DFW area. Fresh shad with Dead Red Blood Spray sent these anglers home with a cooler full of fresh catfish fillets.

We resceduled the trip due to unsafe winds and lake conditions.

Lake Lewisville Catfish Guide Report - 4/18/12

Jack and Joe joined me Wednesday morning for their annual channel catfishing trip on Lake Lewisville. The north winds the previous day and then changing out of the south over night scattered the fish a bit, but we found them and filled their limits. First spot had plenty of fish, but the majority of them wouldn't even make the 12 inch mark. Second set up was the same way with only a few more keepers making it into the box. Third setup was a bit better with some nice keeper channel cats and a 3 lb blue coming to the boat. The bite lasted there for about an hour before they just shut down. Spot #4 was the ticket. We found some fish that were stacked up, hungry and the right size this time. The fish counter was steadily clicking and they made quick work finishing out their 50 fish limit of channel cats and a few blues in the mix. Big fish of the day was a nice blue that weighed 8 lbs. All fish were caught on carolina rigs with Secret 7 Dip Bait and Sudden Impact Fiber Bait from Team Catfish under natural conditions (no chum, no baited holes)

I'm going to book a instructional trip later on this summer. Right now, I'm using my money and vacation time to get the house back in shape.

Lake Lewisville Catfish Guide Report - 4/22/12

Shane joined me for a half-day blue cat trip Saturday morning on Lake Lewisville. The passing front and north winds had the fish scattered a bit. Had to do a bit of moving, but we kept at it and he put some nice eating size fish in the box. He ended the trip with his 25 fish limit of blue cats, several sandbass and a nice hybrid. Got to try out the "Bobber with a Brain" on this trip. They sent me one for a product review. It works as described on the package and held its own against the Santee-Cooper rig used on the other rods. We caught several blues and the hybrid on it on this trip. All fish were caught on fresh shad with Dead Red Blood Spray.

Lake Lewisville Fishing Guide Report - 4/23/12

Al and Shelly joined me for a fun-filled and exciting blue cat trip on Lewisville Sunday. The morning started off a bit slow with little to no breeze and a mirror like finish on the lake. Fist stop put a channel cat, 1 blue a nice hybrid. Shelly landed that one on the "Bobber with a Brain". Changed things up a bit and picked up a few more sandbass and a couple of blues at the next stop. Winds were predicted to pick up a bit later in the morning. Good thing because we were in the right spot on the third setup. They caught several more eating size blues in the next several minutes. Then out of no where, Al had a GREAT strike! The rod slammed down and line was heading the other direction! He did a great job wrestling the fish around other rods and nearly missed a wrap-up in the anchor rope. Al and Shelly were quite surprised when I netted and lifted the big fish into the boat. His new personal best weighed in right at the 30 lb mark. We fished one more area to wrap the trip up with a steady bite on some nice eating size blues. They finished the trip with 37 blues about a dozen sandbass and a nice hybrid in the box. Fresh shad with Dead Red stretched their arms, put some smiles on their faces and filled the freezer with fresh fish. Great times, great company and great memories!

Lake Lewisville Fishing Guide Report - 4/20/12

Dave and Brandon came out for thei anual spring time blue cat trip with me on Lake Lewisville. This is Dave's thid trip and Brandon's second time out. I had a gentle south wind blowing during my brief bait catching session. We left the dock and made a short run and got set up. The south wind was nice, but it quickly died. We got 2 bites there and never hooked up with a fish. I made an executive decision to make a move to find some more productive water. By this time the wind changed out of the north and the temperature was falling. We got set up and started putting a few fish in the box. The winds picked up even more and were forced to move again. We pulled into a slightly protected area and the guys began hammering the blues. Dave landed his new personal best blue and big fish of the morning that tipped the scales at 20 lbs. We had a few brief rain showers come through, but that didn't slow these fellas down. They ended the trip with close to 40 fish in the box in 5 hours of catching. Fresh shad with Dead Red did the deed once again. Here are a couple of photos from their trip.

Lake Lewisville Blue Cat Report - 4/24/12

John just couldn't get enough of this blue catfishing back in March and had to come back for another round. He brought is hunting buddy Ken along for the 5 hour ride this time. The south winds had some quality box fish fired up and ready to jump in the boat. The guys only ended up with 32 blues, but they were some good ones. We've been averaging 10 fish per gallon bag of fillets on most trips lately. These 32 fish made 4-1/2 gallons of prime choice blue catfish fillets. Better than anything you can buy in the store. They also released several hybrids and about a dozen sandbass. Fresh shad with Dead Red Blood Spray beat out Kroger's fish market once again. Here's a photo of their catch.

Lake Lewisville Catfish Guide Report - 4/28/12

The spring time blue cat bite is in full swing. Chuck and Marcus brought their Dad Conrad out Saturday morning for a 5 hour happy birthday catfishing trip on Lake Lewisville. The winds were a little stiff, but the fish were fired up and biting. Conrad had big fish honors with a 16 lb blue. By the time we had his big fish in the net, Chuck hooked up with a 10 pounder off the back of the boat. That was one of about 6 doubles. They had a steady bite in the first stop that lasted almost 4 hours before tapering off and having to move. We got right back on the fish and wrapped it up with a total count of 39 blues, 1 hybrid and about a dozen sandbass (released). Just a little over 260 lbs of fish caught in 5 hours. They took home 7 gallon bags stuffed to the max with catfish fillets. Fresh shad with Dead Red Blood Spray from Team Catfish was the icing on the birthday cake for these lucky anglers.

Lake Lewisville Fishing Guide Report - 4/29/12

Thomas, Nolan, Robert and his wife came out from Jacksboro area for their 5th trip with me to wrap up a very successful month of April. We started out in the same area we hammered the fish the day before and only picked up about 7 fish. Made a short run for setup #2 and same thing. Picked up several blues right at first and then the sandbass moved in. I can't stand a bait theif, much less lot of them. We got out of there to locate some more blues. Well the third spot was the charm. Got set up and had a nice blue on by the time I got the third rod in the water. They enjoyed a steady bite from some above average eating size blues. Lots of 5, 6 and 7 lb fish in the mix. They ended their half-day trip with 41 blues and a couple of deep-hooked sandbass in the box. They took home 6 gallon bags filled to the brim with fresh catfish fillets. Fresh shad with Dead Red Blood Spray from Team Catfish will make a few folks happy at their Church Fish Fry!

Here a some numbers from the past 2 months. My customer landed over 3,500 lbs of fish in the month of March including the release of 48 blues over the 10 lb mark. April produced 2,700 lbs of fish including 24 blues over 10 lbs. All fish landed on rod and reel. May should be an excellent month as well. Call, email, or PM me if interested in booking a guided catfishing trip on Lake Lewisville.

Lake Lewisville Fishing Guide Report - May 2, 2012

Had repeat customers John and his dad Bob in the boat with me this morning. The winds were up a bit, but the fish were in a feeding mood. First fish hit the deck by the time rod #3 hit the water. They put about 20 nice blues and a hybrid in the box in just a couple of hours. The channel cats moved in so we pulled up to find some more blues. We spent a few minutes driving and looking.

We finally found some fish holding on some mid-depth structure and got set up. Somehow I managed to get all of the rods baited and in the water. I was kind of worried for a bit. This time of year the fish should be on the fresh baits in a matter of seconds if they are there and feeding. Well my break didn't last very long. I got to sit down for about 3 minutes and grab a quick drink before it all broke loose again. The fish would come through in vicious feeding schools with several doubles and even a triple hook-up with some solid box fish in the 5 to 7 pound range. Those fish were far from being shy and slammed the rods down on most strikes. John had a great hit when one of my Thundercat rods laid down flat and the fish pulled about 20 yards of line out in a hurry. My first thought was a big hybrid until it rolled on the surface and showed its true indentity. We worked the fish over, under and around several rods and the anchor rope before finding its mark in the net. The big blue weighed right at 20 lbs. and is a new personal best for the lucky angler.

They finished up their 5 hour trip with 42 blues and 5 hybrids in the box. They released the big blue, 5 channel cats and 6 sandbass. The grand total came out to be about 280 lbs of fish caught. The keepers made 6 gallons of catfish fillets and 2 gallon bags of hybrid fillets (on the half-shell). Fresh gizzard and threadfin shad with Dead Red Blood Spray were the baits of choice. Here are some photos of a very successful and memorable trip.

No problem Ken. There's no way I'd leave anyone out there in the middle of the lake like that. I'm sure you'd do the same for me. The good deed brought us some good carma. Those fellas caught some nice fish yesterday morning.
