Local boat shop said the Mercury Rep told them if they sell nothing else for their outboards...they should have EVERYONE using this product. I religiously use Stabil Ethanol treatment in gas, but how about the Quickleen??

I get nervous about overdoing it with this stuff. I use Sea Foam at the rate specified on the can.

I have also used Berrymans to clean my fuel system. That stuff works but I do worry about thinning out the oil/gas ratios.

The fact that a sales person says that everyone needs to buy and use a new product is nothing new.

My understanding is that Mercury highly recommends Quickleen in every tank. It removes carbon deposits. I have used Quickleen and Marine Stabil in every tank for years in the 250 Pro XS's I have owned.

I highly disagree with the use of Berrymans in any 2 cycle engine. Using that stuff is like useing straight carb cleaner as fuel. Bad things are happening.

Quickleen is a very similar product to Yamaha ring free, which Yamaha highly recommends in their outboards as well.

Both products have the same chemical make-up as Chevron Techron though the concentration and make up is specifically made for continuous outboard use. The automotive Techron formulas that you buy at Autozone, etc. are labeled for periodic use, i.e. every 3K miles bla bla bla.

If you can buy Chevron or Texaco gas your getting a very small amount of Quickleen/RingFree with your fill up.

Quickleen is one fuel additive that really does work. You can tell by looking on the prop where there is carbon deposites from the quicken removing carbon. I use it and my plugs and piston crowns are like Martin said Clean as a whistle thumb

I have religiously used quick clean and sea foam in my pro xs. It is very clean burning. Tech just stuck a scope inside it and he told me that he had never seen the interior of an engine look so good....To me, it's cheap insurance.

1/2 oz. quickkleen
1/2 oz. quickcare

For every 5 gallons of gas!!!!!!! if the boat is not being used for more than 30 days then add quickstore.

Mike Halfmann, thanks for posting that. It worked but, thanks to your advice, I won't be doing it again.

What do you personally recommend for a mix with gas?

Mike Halfmann the boatmann has got that right. Berrymans is a great carburetor soak, but you've got to totally disassemble the carb first. Otherwise, all the rubber and plastic components in the carb will melt.

I've got a relative who for years was a mechanic on open-wheel race cars. In the early '90s, when using Berrymans in your auto fuel "to clean the injectors" was quite vogue, I asked John for his advice on using the stuff ever so often. His advice was, "It's easier to pull the bed off your truck than to drop the fuel tank when you replace your fuel pump."

I use Quickleen, SeaFoam, and Stabil in everytank. Stabil helps combat the ethanol in the fuel as well as water intrusion. Quickleen and SeaFoam help prevent carbon build up. This combo is highly recommended by the Mercury guru's over on Bass Boat Central and the Hull Truth.

Whatever you choose to run, make sure you add Stabil to whatever additive you are already running! Quickleen, SeaFoam, or Ring Free will not solely prevent the ethanol problems.

My mixture is per every 10 gallons of gas
1oz Seaform
1oz Quickleen
1oz Stabil Marine

I mixed 6oz of each into a Stabil bottle, and then I just put in 3oz of the mixture/cocktail per every 10 gallons of gas. Makes it easy at fill up.

I think Stabil is being over used in boats. If I know I am going to burn most of my gas on a fishing trip I do not use. In fact if I know I am going to use the gas within a week or 2 I do not use it. I do believe in the cleaning products on a regular basis.

In what way do you think the Stabil is going to hurt anything? I use it every tank regardless and have never had any issues to date with my older motor.
