St Louis Guy here coming down Memorial Weekend to go Red Fishing, I have NO CLUE as to what brand or size Spinning reel I need for salt water. And I am on a budget but not a cheapscate. Thankful for any and all help.

Get a reel that holds at least 170 yards of 10lb test I would say. Should be fine for inshore. Get a bigger reel if your planning on fishing surf or big water jetties. I do just fine size 35 or 40 Pflueger or size 3000 or 4000, but I'm normally fishing in the bay.

Budget would be a 4000 size in a Shimano Sienna at around 30 bucks and a Sedona at around 50 bucks. I use the Sahara and have for years at around 80 bucks. I have some that are 10-12 years old that have been used exclusively for Trout and Redfish. A 2500 size will work for trout but for big Reds the extra line capacity and larger line size would be better.

12# test on the 4000 or 3000 size and 8# on the 2500 size but I use power pro 20# test on my 2500's and they work great!
