Some of this stuff is great TXU fat-cats, nuclear catastrophes, meltdowns, and wise-n-himer students... Reason why I do no fight wars in my history classes the know it alls get caught up in the minutia of musket ball size oblivion.

Power companies have done so much for fish hatcheries and research in Texas it is silly to even suggest that they are closing these lakes just to fish them themselves. If you are worried about your tax dollars being wasted these companies pay in tax revenue in hone year what the participants of this site will probably pay in a lifetime. It is a private lake on a nuclear facility and due to security concerns it is now only used for research end of story.

Here is an example of a power company at work:
“Oso Bay hasn’t always enjoyed such excellent health. Prior to the construction of the Barney Davis power plant in 1976, waters from the upper Laguna Madre to Oso Bay suffered from a lack of oxygen due to stagnation. But as the power plant takes in and discharges water to cool its pumps, circulation is increased which leads to more plant growth where young fish, crabs and shrimp can feed and survive until they reach maturity.
Unfortunately, the power plant is due to go offline within the next couple of years, which could very well affect Oso Bay’s future health. The power plant has already reduced its water flow which may lead to a reversal of its positive effects.”

Guys if some of you feel the real need to get into some big black bass I will be more than glad to take you down to Lake Falcon, we can travel as a group… I just spoke to a friend of mine who said they were out for 3 days and collected 175 the largest being 9.13. Also on the way there I can take you to one of our tanks where you probably catch a 13 plus black bass and we will let you keep one if you like.

Always there has been some terrible evil at home or some monstrous foreign power that was going to gobble us up if we did not blindly rally behind it.

It IS NOT Squaw Creek. Can you read, IT IS NOT SQUAW CREEK.

Reply from TP & W concerning TXU contract lake #1

TXU Contract Lake #1 is a 110-acre impoundment in
Freestone County on the Big Brown power plant property near FAIRFIELD, TX.

TXU donated this lake to Texas Parks and Wildlife Department for used as a research facility. We stock special populations of fish that we want to tag and monitor. The lake is not open to the public.

if you are two foot in the water than it is leageal to fish that water and any that connects to it, correct. then why not enter the lake in a tributary directly behind the lake and travel up it in a john boat. NO ONE OWNS THE WATER PAST THE VEGITATION LINE BUT THE STATE OF TEXAS, if it connects to state propertie. and I have seen a creek that I belives probably ties in with the lake on state property directly behind the lake.

i think it dries out outsde of the property. what you are talking about connected with the brazos/poluxy confluence at one time. we would have to have flood condtions for that strecth to be navigable.

Iam a stupid ole redneck so I dont know. But why not hit TXU where they rip all of us off In the POCKET BOOK!!! If I remember right the State stocked all those fish so that means they belong to us. along
with all ther offspring. Why not take TXU to court to either reopen the lake or pay us repay us every penny the taxpayers spent on the lake and fish with intrest!!!

does anyone know anybody at the local paper in grandbury. if so what are the chances of a news artical hitting the news stands. that would create a local stur and many questions could be answered by someone who has the correct athoritie to speak on txu's behalf. mabe a one on one with a reporter can answer many asked questions. and if we know in time we could post a board for questions to ask the officials so we can all get our voice heard instead of TALKING TO EACH OTHER, MABE WE COULD DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT or at least find out what ex.is going on. This was my favorite fishing hole and im as disiponted and fustrated as the next, but we need to know exactly whats going on and the only way to do that in a big company is to get the publics attention and the way to do that is trew the media. so let us know if we can make this happen.

The weekend right after 9/11, we hit Lake Bastrop. Its a power plant lake. LCRA had its rangers in full battle gear at the ramp doing inspections before launch. All compartments checked. When he got to our battery/gas compartment, as soon as he opened it he said, "Hmmmm, battery and pressurized gas. Thats a bomb. You are free to launch. Have a good day."

Also, when TXU builds its new coal fired power plants, who says they won't do the same as Squaw?

Guys & Gals, Let me go through everything in bullet points...first off I had guided on Squaw Creek for 6 years until the 9/11 closing. The day after that attack I cancelled 38 trips to the tune of $9500.00...thus I have as much right to be upset as anyone. Secondly, I will find out whatever info I can about possible re-openings, anyone allowed fishing, etc as my deer lease is next door to one of the Security Directors at Squaw Creek. I know for a FACT that several political figures are entertained there annually and ANYONE having anything to do with TXU can and has fished out there with TXU employees regularly. I will visit with them on Sunday and see what I can find out. You paid for them with tax dollars and license fees and the TPWD stocked them into Squaw for YOU to catch and enjoy....this should be our foundation of trying to receive the right to fish there.

Lastly...until the United States becomes a terrorist free country you will probably never see Squaw open again.

Squaw will not ever reopen according to the biologist that comes to the Granbury bass club about once a year. The question about the fish being stocked by TPW, was brought up and he did agree that the fish were products of the original stockings.

There is no way that they, the TPW could charge them for the fish because of the natural spawns that have taken place in the past years since the stockings.

We the fisher people did in ways pay for the original fish. In my opinion we have the right to the fish, so if we are not allowed access to the lake, Maybe we should look into petitions aimed at Tpw to go and take the fish out of the lake and use them to restock some of our older area lakes with brood type fish so we could see faster results than using fry.

If nothing else maybe TXU would take notice if they were about to lose the reason that they keep the lake closed; Their own private heaven.

Where do any of yall get this pipe dream idea that the US will EVER be completely terrorist free? Even if Al Queda is destroyed there are still Americans just as eager to shaft the government. Correct me if I am wrong but werent the Oklahoma City Bombing and the unibomber both Americans?

An ex marine posted something a few pages back about we are letting terrorists win if we change our lives as a result. When they hijacked planes we were told to go ahead and fly just days after the attack. We were told not to live in fear and let this change how we conduct our lives. Its both sad and rediculos to read some of the stuff on the previous pages. So many of you live in fear of terrorism and are willing to sacrafice things that are rightfuly yours as a result of paranoia and fear.

Its sad to see TXU take advantage of this situation like they have. They have taken paranoia and used it to make their own playground. We all know there isnt a damn thing that a terrorist can do from fishing waters to "blow up" this plant, especialy with another 150 boats on the lake at the same time.

I would be willing to pay a $20 launch fee to help pay for boat checks at the ramp and I am sure most others would too, but I dont think TXU is willing to hear that either. Why cant we go to the bargaining table with these big wigs and come to terms??? There are a thousand ways to make it work for both sides if both sides would just get together, which is another thing TXU wont allow.

I will give props to TXU for the kid fish thing they did, that is awesome!

Yeah I need to go back out there and fish again, I haven't been in a couple of months--Piepuncher mentioned he might want to go. We can only fish from the bank but it has gotten so little pressure since 9-11 the fish will almost bite a bare hook. I wish they would stock reds there -- its closer to me than the other power plant lakes.

This whole thing surely looks like a situation where, what you know will get you JACK-SQUAT and WHO you know might help the cause....SOMEBODY in the TFF has got to have some pull with TXU or at least know someone that does...just a thought.

You know anytime anybody has a problem with anything they get in touch with channel 4 news, the news team does an extensive investigation and gets answers straight from the sources. So why doesnt someone call fox 4 news. Let them do all the dirty work and go public with it at the same time. That should open some eyes.

I sent an email to the FOX 4 investigative reporters, I suggest all of you do the same. When it asks topic select Fox 4 investigation.
