You guys think the toro would work on a swimbait setup? Its got a big spool. Considering a curado 300 but if I can't get by with a smaller lighter reel I will

I love my toro winch.....I have tried every reel under the sun and NOTHING cranks in a deep diving crank like that revo toro winch.

Is there a reason that you would want the high speed retrieve of the toro over the toro winch? The toro is 6.4:1 but that is 30.9 in/turn. The toro winch is 22 in/turn at 4.6:1.

the real question is what weight of swimbaits are you throwing? If it's a 6oz bait then I would say no, that won't work. If it's 2oz or less then it should be fine.

That's what i'm wondering about PayneFish, what makes those larger framed reels better for throwing big baits, other than a larger capacity spool. That's why I thought the toro would be good, larger capacity spool, but a smaller framed reel.

A 50 sized Toro and a 300 series Curado are very similar sized. Not sure why you are thinking the Toro is smaller. They are both considerably larger than a normal Revo or 200 series Curado. A 300/301 Curado or a 50/51 Toro would make a great swimbait reel!

Let me be clear about that first but there are experts who have been doing this for years who I asked about equipment and what not. They said my winch would be fine for the smaller stuff but the gears will wear down a lot faster on the heavier baits. I heard from multiple guys about not being able to get six months out of a Winch for heavy baits. The winch I use is throwing baits under three oz mostly. I have a 400 sized Shimano which most of the experts swear by for my big pig sticker baits.

I've been using the toro 50 for coming up on 2 years with zero problems. I throw baits as big as 8" hudds, 8" freestyles, and Armageddons, and as light as 6.5" rising sons on my toros and have no issues. I did change out the bearings on mine to abec 7 stainless, which helped casting distance. I'm running two toro 50's and both are doing fine. I would recommend cleaning the reel frequently, especially the level wind gearing as it doesn't disengage on the cast, so it needs a little more frequent lubing.

That's why I thought the toro would be good, larger capacity spool, but a smaller framed reel. You start chunking several ounces of bait on a regular basis and the need for an overall stouter frame, gearing, etc... becomes evident. The only 200 size reel I'm using for swimbaits is the revo inshore which seems to be built a little stronger than my regular revos. But after a year and a half of use, I'm starting to develop some wear in gears that I've never seen in a reel before. Larger spool capacity is just one part of why you need a bigger reel for big baits. And I love the massive drag capability on the toros and inshore

okay, i understand, i wasnt aware of the durablity (stronger gears, drag, etc.). I'm looking at a toro 50. I can get one at a reasonable price from a guy, and was just curious to hear about it. I assumed that it was smaller like a 200 sized, thanks for clarifying that its' comprable to a 300 shimano. I'm going to give it a try, thanks guys!
