Great day!! My dad left the boat keys at the house one time when I was young and he had to drive 2 hours back to get them. So now that I am grown I always keep my boat keys under the seat in the boat.

I emailed Mark Webb (who is the District Supervisor for the tpwd) that exact question a couple of months ago and his answer was just under a 1000. I was hoping to get a no they hadn't.

It's come up 2 feet from the low but has another 2 to go till full. I went back in Dec. when the lake was 4 foot low and there was not an ounce of hydrilla anywhere. Water was a different color also. TPWD was suppose to survey the lake in Sept. for hydrilla and decide at that time if the carp would be needed. I don't believe that any hydrilla was found but they put them anyway to help prevent it from coming back so quickly this year. I was hoping that they would decide not to put them in so that there would be a small amount of hydrilla somewhere this summer. They expect a certain amount of the carp to die off each year but does anyone know the lifespan of those fish.

Yeah the grass disappeared and at that time I thought it was awesome, but now I wish there was some grass but not the whole it had. I have been fishing county for the last 7 years real steady and 4-5 years ago before the grass the lale was extremelly clear and we tore the fish up but mainly alot of spotted bass. Along comes grass lake clarity gets even better and bigger largemouth come out to play and stay shallower year round. It was nothing to go catch a 25 pound sack with a 7-9 pound kicker. Now that grass is gone we are catchiby fish all over the lake as it's fishing like a normal body of water with seasonal changes. Fall fish were ALL OVER shallow points and I do mean shallow, like 8-12 inches shallow. Last trip we found 6 schools in 12-25 feet and caught fish up to 7 pounds in. But knowing carp are in there I'm real curious to see how the fish react this spring and summer with lake being 2.5ft low still.

Hydrilla has been a "feast or famine" thing on Houston Co for many years. I started fishing it 30 years ago and it was a true trophy lake and packed with hydrilla. State killed all and water quality went way down as did the trophy fishing(IMO). The lake was very popular for sight fishing in the spring due to extremely clear water. The hydrilla has made many comebacks since then and the state is always fighting it. Yes I have seen it in the summer when the plesure boaters/property owners could not use their waterfront properties due to the grass. What I do hate is "Big Brother" intervening with a "solution" with such long term effects as the introduction of these carp. Look at Conroe. We are spending tax dollars "reintroducing" native plants to that lake. The same tax dollars we spent killing the weeds. Famous last words at Houston County will be "we thought the carp were sterile"!

Very well said 361V. I have fished it since the early 80's and have seen both, lots of grass and no grass. Give me the grass. BIG BROTHER seems to have all the WRONG answers. But ALL the power. They spend our money like crazy and on the dumb things like the Conroe grass. It was to make a bunch of WEATHLYS happy. I remember them crying about the grass. O well here comes the carp.

Then the property owners on lakes like Cypress Springs wonder why their water isn't as beautiful and clear as it used to be...
Despite any statements they may or may not make to appease fishermen, TP&WD would eradicate all hydrilla if they could. It's tough enough having the lakeside homeowners constantly doing battle with us, but the state agency that is supposed to look out for fishermen's interests is right there with them.

TP&W has no business eradicating an entire lake becauce of home owners. The water two miles away from homes is in no way hurting these people. Grass can be controlled around the homes. Thats fine. But the hole damn lake???????? Just more wasted money.

I agree the home owners need to be able to pull there boats up to their docks or shore close to their homes. I would to, and hopefully I will have a lake home this year. But killing HYDRILLA thru out the entire lake is rediculous. Killing it ten miles away from the homes in the creeks and coves, and heavily timbered ares is extreme. Are is it for the jet skiers and pleasure boaters that pay a MINUTE percent of the TP&W taxes. Just a thought.

If you have been to Houston county you know that the only place to be a pleasure boater is down by the dam unless your loose a few marbles. Looks like a miniature fork on east end
