I was at Amistad last week and fished Mexico ALOT. Never turned my iPhone off while there and noticed I had a text from AT&T stating if I used my data plan it would cost $19.97/mb. Had it in the glovebox and had some calls texts and a couple of emails while there. Am I gonna freak out when I get my phone bill? Has anyone experienced this?

Yes, you're going to freak out. Now you said you fished mexico A LOT. Didn't you mean you fished very near the international boundry, so maybe that's why it "seemed" like you were in Mexico when, in fact, you were in Texas?

Set your phone to not allow raoming.

if AT&T calls, simply answer the phone.. "bueno?"

I fished two days in Mexico last time at Falcon. My bill was $13 more than usual. I also did not think about data roaming charges. But $13 is no big deal

So how do you turn off data roaming on the Iphone? Is there a setting in the phone? Or do you call your provider and tell them you do want any TexMel or what ever it is?

I got the same message while fishing at Falcon. My bill was the same next month with no extra charges.

Took mine to cozamel and Jamaica last summer got that same message also instead of roaming it said cuellar at sea I never used it and never got any additional bill for it.

Fouz told me about the phone thing in case we went to MExico... I just turned mine off completely. And yes when in doubt lie... its perfectly acceptable these days to gain an advantage.

I didn't interpret Fouz's post as tell the guy to lie.But I did interpret the "Crossing the line" topic differently before I read yours.

Just got back from Mexico three weeks ago. I got my bill and they charged me $7 bucks for 7 incoming calls I didn't answer. That is BS. You can go on your Iphone and turn data roaming to off. It will stop it from pulling any data, i.e. emails, push notifications, etc. Wifi doesn't count against you. It doesn't take account for the phone ringing. I should have had it turned off.

Mine says that every time it bounces off a Mexico tower. I spend a lot of time in Mexico but haven't had any additional charges. Of course if I'm on a telcel tower I don't try to get on the net.

When I went to Falcon and also some other places in Mexico, all I did was set up an international plan with AT&T for $5/month. I then cancel it right after that month. It gets the rates down for everything by probably 50%.

Go to settings, general, network, and data roaming set to off.

My phone will sometimes read Telcel when I'm on the US side of Falcon. I pay the extra $5/month for Mexico calling and don't worry about it.

That just stops the data. Not voice service. You'll prob need to turn it off to make sure you don't get any...

I'm glad my phone worked over there when I spun my prop in Salado Creek. I'll pay the roaming to be able to call for help if I need it!!!
